Surname

edit

Changed the surname Arsuf back to Arsur; this is how it's given in my source: Jonathan Riley-Smith. (1973). The Feudal Nobility and the Kingdom of Jerusalem, 1174-1277. MacMillan Press. -- Zannah 04:39, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Oh, sorry...I assumed it was a misspelling of Arsuf. Where is Arsur? Adam Bishop 05:48, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)

As it turns out, it's the same place as Arsuf; Arsur was how the Crusaders referred to Arsuf. -- Zannah 21:03, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Ah, that explains it :) Adam Bishop 21:47, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Sempad's letter

Sempad's letter

This letter was written from Sempad to Jean d'Ibelin. Anyone have any idea which of the "Johns of Ibelin" this may have been? --Elonka 05:21, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

John of Ibelin (jurist), the count of Jaffa, and Sempad's brother-in-law (the address is to John the "count of Jaffa" and his "brother", alongside his sister Maria, John's wife). Adam Bishop (talk) 05:29, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
You rock.  :) Thanks Adam, I've updated the Commons page accordingly. --Elonka 05:43, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome - I was trying to transcribe and translate it on my sandbox page, but that image isn't the whole letter. What should I do with that anyway? Wikisource? Adam Bishop (talk) 06:40, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I think Wikisource would be perfect. :) Also, a question about Maria. You said that Maria was Sempad's sister, but I didn't see her mentioned as a sibling on the page of Sempad's father Constantine of Baberon. Is that an omission, or was she a half-sister from a different source? --Elonka 15:15, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't know...she was a sister of Hethum I, King of Armenia, so it would follow that she is also Sempad's sister, but I don't know the specifics. (Sempad calls her "sister" in the letter, at least.) Adam Bishop (talk) 18:54, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
