Opening comment
editHis date of birth and when he moved to various places may be incorrect, but are close to the actual times. I've read several sources which all say different things, such as:
- Chan moved to Hong Kong from China when he was 3
- Chan moved to Phoenix in 1968 -- 6 years after moving to Hong Kong (putting his birthdate in 1958/1959
- Chan moved to Houston 5 years after moving to Arizona
- Chan was 21 when he moved to Las Vegas in 1978 (putting his birthdate in 1956/1957
So, if anyone can clear this up... CryptoDerk 16:10, Sep 22, 2004 (UTC)
What's his Chinese name? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.218.87.69 (talk • contribs)
Chinese name
editStill need Chan's Chinese name. The one in the article is a transliteration of "Chan Johnny." Badagnani (talk) 17:16, 2 May 2008 (UTC) Where's the age like other biographies? Kechie
Chen Jiang Ni is Mandarin pronounciation whereas "Jiang Ni" is translation of Johnny literally, I doubt it's his real name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.2.139.44 (talk) 17:07, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
I doubt it also. Btw, that is "Qiang Ni" in Mandarin pinyin. --Tomchen1989 (talk) 11:36, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Ok I suppose "Chen Jinhai" (陳金海) is his real original Chinese name, we have plenty of source claimed so (Johnny Chan 陈金海). "Chen Jinhai" sounds more likely a name a 1950s Cantonese guy could get.--Tomchen1989 (talk) 12:41, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
But I have no idea about "Jon C. Chan", which IMDB claimed as his birth name. "Jon" seem to be not a pinyin, jyutping or the government's romanisation. The jyutping for "Chen Jinhai" is "can4 gam1 hoi2". It is "chan kam hoi" when using the government's romanisation.--Tomchen1989 (talk) 05:28, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
"Official Site" Merely Advertising
editThe "official web site" linked to in the reference section actually gets redirected to an energy drink website. Thus I would suggest that the first reference be deleted from the article as it is merely advertising. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.216.135.212 (talk) 12:51, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
We have only two Johnny Chan here:
- Johnny Chan (poker player):
- Interlinks: hundreds
- Page views: 200 avg. per day
- Legend poker player
- Johnny Chan (actor):
- Interlinks: 0 (orphaned article)
- Page views: 2-3 avg. per day
- Unknown even in Hongkong, this actor may even not conform to WP:Notability.
- Also Google "Johnny Chan".
- So, Johnny Chan (poker player) is clearly the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Johnny Chan". Meanwhile, per WP:DISAMBIG we don't need a disambiguation page for only one other use. So, Johnny Chan (poker player) moves to Johnny Chan and links to Johnny Chan (actor) with a hatnote for now (if the actor article is not deleted in future). --Tomchen1989 (talk) 15:17, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Johnny Chan (poker player) → Johnny Chan –
- I consider this a clearly uncontroversial move, the reason presents here: Talk:Johnny Chan (poker player)#WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Tomchen1989 (talk) 15:28, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- Support. I can't find anything in the slightest that I disagree with. JaeDyWolf ~ Baka-San (talk) 17:37, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Dchan195's vandalism
editWow, Dchan195 (talk · contribs)'s vandalism edits was really good and very nicely disguised. He changed Chan's Chinese name to "British", and made a lot of modifications on numbers, like 329th place 2008 WSOP ME finish to "32nd".
No one has completely reverted his edits. It's OK, I'm doing it. The worse part is, good information unaffected by the vandalism, was deleted in an attempt to correct Chan's "British" nationality. And, an IP guy's correction from "32nd" back to "329th" might be thought suspicious and has been wrongfully reverted.
Dispite Dchan195 has been blocked, I think it is the most successful vandalism I've ever seen on Wikipedia. --Tomchen1989 (talk) 00:37, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
