Awarded to Non-US-units

edit

For the first time in history, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award was awarded to a Non-US unit for the flying and support units of the E-3A component in Geilenkirchen Germany. for the [Operation Eagle Assist]. The fact should be added to the Wiki. Signed by G.W. Bush on May 15th, 2002, by Donald Rumsfeld on May, 24th 2002 and by Col. Douglas W. Freeman on Dec. 1. 2002 as USAF representative at the NAEWCF. Awarded to 830 Non-US guys. I think that's something special.

I can find nothing official to support this claim. The guidelines for the medal state specifically, "The JMUA may not be awarded to personnel of foreign nations." Additionally, the list of awards does not include anything related to Operation Eagle Assist, units in Geilenkirchen, or for the Eagle Assist inclusive dates (US DoD lists these dates as 12 October 2001 - 16 May 2002). You may be thinking of the NATO Article 5 medal for Operation Eagle Assist, as that was approved for all participating personnel.
