Those who saw "The Gadget Show" on U.K. television (broadcast Channel Five, 7: 15 p.m. British Summer Time, on April 17 2006) will know that some of the information formerly supplied in this article was a spoof, written by Bentley himself. I think that some one ought to point this out - Bentley was only trying to do an experiment. ACEO 11:05, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
- It was actually Jason Bradbury who made the spoof entry. Jooler 09:52, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- And actually on Jon Bentley (TV presenter). --Salix alba (talk) 15:10, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
binary search an algorithm with a bug
edit- He wrote the Programming Pearls column for the Communications of the ACM magazine, and later collected the articles for two books of the same name. He has published or presented over 200 papers. Interesting thing is, that this book presented an algorithm with a bug, that was discovered about two decades later. By that time, this book was read by several generations of great computer scientists who had worked for the biggest software companies. Interestingly enough, however, The C Programming Language had a binary search algorithm that used pointers which introduced a fix - long before this book was published - due to a problem with C syntax rules.
is it just me, or is this paragraph rubbish? what algorithm? the "read by several generations" would usually be taken to mean "several generations of great programmers have passed since the book was published", which kinda contradicts "two decades". also, i fail to understand how the last sentence relates to the rest of the paragraph, esp. considering bentley wasn't its author..--Ghazer (talk) 16:56, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
