Wayne-cestor

edit

I always got a vibe from the Batman animated series that Jonah Hex was a distant ancestor of Bruce Wayne. Did they drop any hints about this in the comics, or am I just imagining things? M.Neko

There has not been any reference in a WWT/JH/Hex/JH2 book of Jonah being related to Wayne. I have not read all of the Vertigo or Swamp Thing guest appearances. This might have been mentioned in a Batman book though.Okiedokiegames

There are no references to any ancestral ties to Bat-Man in any series. Malagant (talk) 20:08, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

How to edit the right column info page?

edit

Just a small niggling detail (aren't they all) which I'd like to correct, but how? If someone else has the ability, please change the "Also makes use of Navy Colt .44 Dragoon pistols" to these weapons: 1873 Colt Peacemaker .45-.70, Colt Dragoon .44, Colt Navy .36, & .45-.70 Winchester Rifle. There was no Colt Navy .44 Dragoon nor a .30-.60 rifle from Henry, Winchester or Marlin so far as I'm aware. Pemigewasset 03:48, 13 August 2006 (UTC)PemigewassetReply

The reference probably comes from my website (the Jonah Hex Coral) which is based on a dc comics "facts about Hex" piece in one of the wstern digest reprints. As such it is correct, but fictional. MopyNZ (talk) 20:29, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hex

edit

I notice this article completely lacks detail on the series Hex, in which Jonah was transported to a post apocalyptic 21st century and had adventures there. Anyone know enough about it to write a section? - 66.93.144.171 21:13, 5 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I know that the latter issues had some of the worst artwork of any comic book ever sold and it was a disservice to the great western comic book that was Jonah Hex. It was a futile attempt to keep the character profitable by turning him into a "Mad Max" fish out of water person. It was garbage.204.80.61.10 21:02, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Bennett TurkReply
Re; Hex: ...the latter issues had some of the worst artwork of any comic ever sold.... I can only assume you have seen extremely little of 1940s era comic books, but never mind. That it was esthetically "garbage" (if true; that is an opinion, after all) is irrelevant to the fact that it exists (the article does not indicate that it has been retconned out of existence, in that sense of the word) and deserves more coverage than it currently has here. I assume, given that an external link referencing his second Justice League appearance leads to a report of a "fanfic" explanation as to how he returned to the Old West, that no DC publication has ever covered that. However, on the last page of the final issue of Hex, Jonah finds his own stuffed-and-mounted body, which surely deserves to be mentioned (the comic issue itself is a citable source to that). As the following thread, "Bio," indicates (and, BTW, it is dated between the two prior postings of this thread), the future trip certainly should be included in the section "Significant dates in Jonah's life." Speaking of that, it states that wife Mei Ling, with their infant son, leaves him in Vol. 1, #s 51-53. That can't be right, can it? He was tracking them and she was continuing to appear (albeit with increasing sporadicness and brevity) when he "disappeared" at the end of #92. There's just no way she packed up and left forty issues before the final one. --Ted Watson (talk) 19:55, 23 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Mei Ling did pack up and leave in and the rest of the run, except for issues 73-75, did include references to Mei Ling but she and Jonah never got back together. http://jonahhex.blogspot.com/2008/08/jonah-hex-53-haunting.html
During this time Jonah was involved with Emmy Lou Hartley, as well as Adrian Clifford. Dwayne the canoe guy May 5th, 2009 —Preceding undated comment added 18:58, 5 May 2009 (UTC).Reply

Well, if you'll re-read the above, you'll see that I never said they got back together, only that she was still represented in the feature, which you concede. But she did leave back in #53. O.K., thanks. --Ted Watson (talk) 20:03, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

You stated there was no way she packed up and left just because she made appearances in the series after, which was incorrect. Jonah was not tracking her or Jason at all either. Her subsequent appearance in the #59-63 story arc, kidnapped by the White Lotus to ensure Jonah's co-operation with their plans, had no mention of her or his son since she left. They worked together to escape and she pretty much says she loves him but there is no way they can be happy together before walking off. I don't believe there was mention of her again until #76 (during a drinking binge and with no appearance) and then she is seen in #78-81 in her own home when J.D. Hart visits her. Hart begins courting her and she briefly visits Jonah in jail in #81. She is visited by Hart in #84, and her final appearance so far has been #90 (Hart's murder where it's implied they were living as a couple; she and Jonah never cross paths this issue).
Hex should probably be written up in a separate section on this page as it directly connects to the original series. I believe Infinite Crisis #6 establishes Hex as existing on Earth-898 (alternate future reality), during the creation of Alex Luthor's Multiverse in Infinite Crisis #5-6, but I've not read these. Earth-898 was erased from existence following the collapse of the Multiverse during Crisis on Infinite Earths. Secret Origins v3-21 specifically mentions this chapter in his life when a reporter interviewing Tall Bird (Jonah's widow) asks about his sudden disappearance from the town of Red Dog (given as 1875). To my knowledge, none of these events have been officially erased and v2 has steered clear of them completely. Malagant (talk) 21:19, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I did not state, but asked, "That can't be right, can it?" And I have already conceded the accuracy of the cited issue for her leaving the marriage. You have explicitly corroborated my statement/memory that she did keep making appearances until very near the last issue, thanks. --Tbrittreid (talk) 22:11, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

edit

The Biography could be beefed up but I don't trust my memory enough right now.

-childhood (father/mother), teens/gun training/Apaches, Civil War

-bounty hunting/scarring/travel/marriage/kid

-brought to future for entertainment, some sort of gunfighter showdown

-gets back (somehow?), shot and killed

-stuffed, circus, restaurant

Separate article for the Vertigo series?

edit

We have separate articles for a number of Vertigo series that differ from the DCU version (Deadman (Vertigo), House of Mystery (Vertigo), House of Secrets (Vertigo), The Losers (Vertigo) and Sandman (Vertigo)) and the Vertigo version of Hex is very differen, plus it has the court case to help bolster notability. Thoughts about splitting it off? (Emperor (talk) 15:08, 11 June 2010 (UTC))Reply

Actors in the precis?

edit

Having the names of two actors who have portrayed/ voiced him in the opening character sketch just looks plain random. I can see that the Brolin film is topical, but the reference is not really encyclopædic; the reference to Jane is just odd, as he isn’t uniquely identified with the character, nor is he the only person to have voiced the character in animation. a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales):   b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
Comment/questions
  • 1b. The lead section is not consistent with WP:LEAD. It needs to provide a more thorough summary of the article so that it can "stand alone as a concise overview" of the article.
  • 2b. In "Debut", which reference did this paragraph come from? (or how did you figure out that this was his first appearance).
  • In "Debut", why is "full-story appearance" in quotation marks and the DeZuniga italized?
  • In "Debut", please re-phrase this: "Hex all but dominated the new title right up until issue #38" to something more formal. Does "all but dominated" mean he did not dominate the title?
  • Citation 4 is to "Manning, Matthew K. "1980s" in Dolan, p. 214" - this doesn't seem complete. What is the publication?
  • 2a/b. The Scribd reference "The Chronicles of Jonah Hex (Part 2)" is self-published source and therefore does not meet WP:RELIABLESOURCES. Unfortunately it appears that author does not show his references either.
  • The "All-Star Western vol. 3" section should have a citation to a reference that describes the series.
  • Numerous external links seem to be dead [1]
  • 1a/b. "In other media" should be written in prose, not a list.
Conclusion
  • This article does not currently meet the GA criteria for the above noted reasons. Feel free to re-nominate it (or take it to Peer Review for additional feedback) after providing more thorough citations and references in the "Publication history" and "In other media" sections, and boosting the lead. maclean (talk) 05:23, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Chinese Wife/Girlfriend

I seem to recall reading several comics from the 70s run where Hex had a Chinese wife or girlfriend. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.29.164.83 (talk) 21:29, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
