"Transfer" to Arsenal

edit

No transfer to Arsenal has happened at time of writing and newspaper gossip is not notable. Please do not add any further speculative gossip to this page. You will find confirmed news of any move on Arsenal and Feyenoord's club websites. You will not find it on any newspaper website. Hermiod (talk) 17:07, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

From what I read on skysports.com, Feyenoord are asking for a high price. Michael 12:50pm Pacific Time, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Aston Villa seem to be in the running for De Guzman as they aim to cement their place in the English 'top 4' at the expense of a quickly faultering Arsenal team.

Couple issues

edit

I'm suggesting that the article be renamed. This is with regards to the accent in "Guzmán" within the article title. As I noticed the issue brought up here: Talk:Julian de Guzman, and "Guzman" without an accent was the outcome. I think there should be some consistency especially since Jonathan is related to Julian. Even if they weren't related, I think the discussion within the talk page of Julian de Guzman is quite clear and rightly so that "Guzman" without an accent was the decision. I understand that Jonathan is Dutch and I don't know if that has any bearing on any part of his name being modified such as adding an accent or not but I'm quite sure it doesn't. There is a citation being used (this one: [1]) it was used as a reference three times with thin the article. But it only contains pictures of the Feyenoord squad. Banana Fingers (talk) 17:24, 28 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Free-kick specialist?

edit

"De Guzmán is also known for being a free-kick specialist". It's been tagged with a {{by whom}} twice and removed twice without providing a source, although the second revert stated "A pundit hardly seems influential or necessary to the point, considering it is a fact that he has taken (and scored) on free kicks throughout his career" yet that's not supported in the article and so I'm afraid it's WP:SYNTHESIS at best. Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:04, 17 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

The first ref doesn't appear to be a RS, the other three simply indicate that he takes free kicks, and advance the SYNTHESIS point, but together it might be enough, thanks. Walter Görlitz (talk) 02:19, 17 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
I do realise this. As you might imagine, not all specialty traits in notable players have been given specific journalistic treatment. But in the case of free-kicks I think there is a great deal of self-evidence, whereas other attributes are more ambiguous and in absolute need of support. To me it only made sense with multiple references as none are ideal, but in combination I believe it's better than nothing: there is praise of a free-kick goal and its difficulty (skill), claims of free-kick specialist and it being a key element of his game from a young age where he was groomed to deliver dead balls, free-kick goals at two very different times in his career establishing continuity and importance. Perhaps a slight re-wording would also be beneficial? De Guzman has been a free-kick specialist throughout is career. Nonc01 (talk) 11:51, 17 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Where are the reliable sources to verify this claim about a living person? GiantSnowman 12:15, 17 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
As I might imagine, if he's not recognized by journalists or some other reliable source as being a specialist in something then it's OR to suggest it. Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:03, 17 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
The dead ball responsibility throughout his career makes him a specialist, praise of these deliveries is further emphasis. This is not a claim or OR it's a fact based entirely on what he has done on the field. What you are asking is like requesting proof that a player is a 'goal-scorer' with a talking head rather than a scoring table or match reports. It's beside the point. But I don't care, edit how you see fit I'm not going to rv. Nonc01 (talk) 01:25, 18 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
