Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Moved Jorge Ortiz Mendoza → Jorge Ortiz (Spanish footballer), Jorge Antonio Ortiz → Jorge Ortiz (Bolivian footballer) No such user (talk) 10:12, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- Jorge Ortiz Mendoza → Jorge Ortiz (footballer, born 1992)
- Jorge Antonio Ortiz → Jorge Ortiz (footballer, born 1984)
– WP:COMMONNAME is just "Jorge Ortiz", neither uses maternal surname of middle name professionally. Source for first footballer: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, all refs on page.
Source for second footballer: 1, 2, all of them on page. Ortizesp (talk) 18:53, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
- Comment alternative: Jorge Ortiz Mendoza → Jorge Ortiz (Spanish footballer), Jorge Antonio Ortiz → Jorge Ortiz (Bolivian footballer)
- Support either alternative per nomination, but personal preference would be for the second option — Jorge Ortiz (Spanish footballer) and Jorge Ortiz (Bolivian footballer). —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 20:03, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. GiantSnowman 12:21, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- Support per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (sportspeople)#Association football (soccer) which gives equal importance to YOB as to nationality, and reflecting long-held convention at WP:FOOTBALL that prefers YOB to nationality given that nationality in football is fluid. GiantSnowman 12:25, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose. If the common name is ambiguous, we disambiguate. In these cases maternal surname is used by sources frequently[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] and natural disambiguation is generally preferable to parenthetical disambiguation, particularly in a case like this when the full name is also a common name. DrKay (talk) 14:23, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- Several sources use his full name in the lead, and then just "Ortiz" in the rest of the article. Of course his full legal name is mentioned, but it isn't the most common name he has.--Ortizesp (talk) 14:50, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- That's a misunderstanding of COMMONNAME. You're not suggesting a move to "Jorge Ortiz". Whatever happens here, the article is not moving to his common name. It has to be disambiguated. Wikipedia:Article titles#Disambiguation applies. DrKay (talk) 17:23, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- Yes exactly, it's being disambiguated by the brackets as seems to be an extremely common practice for footballers sitewide.--Ortizesp (talk) 21:33, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- Support alternative option. Nationality is a useful qualifier here, and preferred by WP:NCPDAB. --BDD (talk) 20:17, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
