Josep Gómes → Josep Gomes – Gomes is a Portuguese surname. It does not have any accent mark. MonFrontieres (talk) 14:08, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

- Oppose - origin of surname irrelevant, sources use the accent, so should we. GiantSnowman 18:48, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- Those databases fail WP:RS for WP:BLP orthography at just about every possible level. In ictu oculi (talk) 12:17, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
- Even if Gomes received an Spanish treatment, it would not have an accent mark because it is a word that is stressed on the penultimate (next-to-last) syllable and ends with s. Words with this stress which end in n, s or a vowel never have accent marks. See Spanish_orthography#Stress_and_accentuation.--MonFrontieres (talk) 03:44, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

- Oppose even the Portuguese sports press are spelling this Andorran with a Spanish accent. Even clearer heres a Spanish news source giving PORTUGAL VS ANDORRA – Portugal: ... André Gomes, ... Andorra: Josep Gómes.; Gómes in Spain is accented. In ictu oculi (talk) 12:21, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
- Spanish accent? Gomes ends with the letter s and it is a word which is stressed on the penultimate (next-to-last) syllable, so according Spanish orthography Gomes should not have an accent mark. See Spanish_orthography#Stress_and_accentuation.--MonFrontieres (talk) 03:44, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
