Dates of Birth & Death
edit- Birth: Does anyone know this, what town?
- Date of Marriage: Anyone?
- Death: I have read both August 24th and August 25th. Can any be difinitive on this?
- I have also seen that his name was both "Jr." and the "II", the later making me believe that he had a son, the "III" somewhere along the way. Confirmation?

Every source I have read (save one, which lists 8/24/54) shows August 25, 1954, as Captain McConnell's date of death. That is also my date of birth. I have always believed this date to be correct, but would like some corroboration also if anyone can provide it. 25 March 2006

The New York Times obituary says Joseph C. McConnell, Jr. was killed on the 25th of August. It also confirms Dover New Hampshire as birthplace. His children are listed as Patricia, Kathleen, and Joseph Christopher 3rd. sabre86
McConnell's date of birth is 30 Jan 1922 from the reference librarian at the Dover Public Library.
What happened to his first Sabre?
editThe article says his Sabre was named "Beauteous Butch", but a photo in Air Force Magazine (Sept. 2006, p. 85) clearly shows that it was named "Beauteous Butch II". What happened to his first Sabre? --Jtir 19:58, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- "On April 12, 1953, he shot down his eighth MiG, but was shot down himself." [1] --Jtir 17:16, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Beautious Butch v. Beauteous Butch II
editThe aircraft flown by McConnell were ALL named Beautious Butch. It was only after his last combat mission that the aircraft was repainted and the name mispelled as Beauteous Butch II. The kill markings were also changed from red MiG 15 sillouettes to red stars. Any photo prior to those taken after the last flight will be spelled with an i not an e. Air Force
edit"Immediately after his 16th air victory, McConnell was sent back to the United States, along with Manuel "Pete" Fernandez, the top Air Force ace (14.5 air victories) of the 4th Fighter-Interceptor Wing."
If McConnell had 16th victories, why is Fernandez called "the top Air Force ace" with only 14.5 victories?-79.219.188.140 (talk) 22:19, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
Awards
editSince McConnell served in both WW II and Korea a full listing of his decorations seems in order other than just the top awards. 50.202.81.2 (talk) 22:39, 13 June 2016 (UTC)
