Chippenham 1830 or 1832

I read the Hansard reference that Neeld was MP for Gatton for only a few months, then had a break on the abolition of that constituency until the 1832 election; in any case, the succession box seems to be now incorrect, since it alleges he was MP for Chippenham from 1830. - My source is http://www.leighrayment.com/commons/Ccommons4.htm -- rayment says that Joseph Neeld was MP for Chippenham from 1830 to 1856. I see that http://hansard.millbanksystems.com/people/mr-joseph-neeld disagrees, but Craig 1832-1885 (2nd edition) lists him as a sitting MP at the 1832 election. I'm inclined to go with two sources whose reliability I have found to be pretty good over the years--BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 23:20, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- OK, thanks, I'm happy with that, although surprised that Hansard appear to be in error. Sorted. Rodhullandemu 23:23, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- The Hansard site is still fairly new, and it does have a disclaimer somewhere about being a work in progress. I can't recall from my days looking over old Hansards whether there was a list of MPs elected at the start of business of each parliament, but whatever the source, I imagine it will take them a time to tweak all the same glitches which occur from the scanning process they have been using. It would probably be a good idea to drop them a note about this one. (I did the same several times with the Oireachtas.ie website, which in its early days had a few glitches relating to less prominent TDs). -BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 23:30, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- He's certainly listed in the returns publihsed in the London Gazette for 1831, "No. 18813". The London Gazette. 14 June 1831., I haven't looked any further back (I did start collating a list of Gazettes which had election details a while back at User:David Underdown/Elections, it's far from complete however.
