the other view

edit

Perhaps someone more familiar with this period of history would present the other view of Reed: He was driven from the army by Washington for cowardice. He did not discover Arnold's treason, but that he drove Arnold to it. While president he had over 400 people he disagreed with found guilty of treason many by Writ of Attainder. Nitpyck, if you could direct me to some references discussing Washington's expulsion of Reed from the military, as you allege, I will be happy to find them and read them. I have some familiarity with this period of history, and with Reed, and have never come across any mention of this. I am, on the other hand, quite familiar with alternative views of Arnold and I believe they have some merit. However, I don't think any one individual "drove" Arnold to his treason, recent popular made-for-tv movies notwithstanding. Reed's antagonism towards Loyalists is already mentioned in this entry, but if you wish to elaborate, please do so.--KateH (talk) 11:43, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Slavery

edit

Law for the emancipation of slavery was passed in 1780 while Reed was Pres. Not sure if it needs its own heading or can be added into his Political Career. Nitpyck (talk) 06:34, 23 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Due to the Revolutionary army half-pay ruling, I created a separate section entitled "Significant political achievements" that could maybe be added to. --Soulparadox 18:13, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

General copyediting

edit

In addition to adding new info, I have gone over the whole article for grammar, Wikifying etc. and hope that I haven't made any major mistakes. I also addressed the inline citation issue and, whilst there needs to be more, I have made a start with four of them. --Soulparadox 18:15, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

geni.com is not RS

edit

I moved this addition here, since geni.com is not RS:

  • His grandfather, Joseph Reed (1650–1727), was born in Carrickfergus, County Antrim in Ulster and settled in West Jersey.
  • "Joseph Reed". Geni. Retrieved September 19, 2015.

Disputing unsourced Founding Father title

edit

@User:Randy Kryn: Joseph Reed is considered a Founding Father by whom? Since you didn't add a citation, we have no way of telling. So please apply one so we can determine whether reliable sources consider him a founder. This page is one 50 or so where you added this title without providing a citation. According to WP:VER, "Any material that needs a source but does not have one may be removed." Thank you. Allreet (talk) 00:55, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

I've added a reference for his being one of the signers of the Articles of Confederation. According to the wikipedia page Founding Fathers of the United States - "America's Founders are defined as those who signed the United States Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and the United States Constitution, and others.""
