The result of the move request was: not moved; Joy (musician) disambiguated. (closed by non-admin page mover) Elli (talk | contribs) 22:18, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Joy (Australian musician) → Joy (musician) – Unnecessary disambiguation. Sean Stephens (talk) 07:33, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). 2pou (talk) 20:26, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
- @Sean Stephens and Lennart97: I have moved this to a full discussion. -2pou (talk) 20:27, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
- @Sean Stephens: There's also Joy (singer), who as a singer is also a musician - and the Australian musician is also a singer. I'm not sure what the best solution is for disambiguating here, but 'singer' vs 'musician' may not be sufficiently clear. Lennart97 (talk) 09:53, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
- The ping didn't quite work then, I'm afraid! Lucky I was keeping an eye on the page. I wasn't aware of the K-pop singer until now, maybe this should move into a full discussion given neither are far and away the primary topic (the Australian musician is more notable than her page makes her out to be also, not much effort has been put into it thus far unfortunately). Hopefully a consensus on this can be reached. Sean Stephens (talk) 10:39, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
- Based on pageviews, the K-pop singer is definitely the primary topic: [1], a ratio of more than 100:1. But perhaps the current construction is not ideal regardless. Starting a formal move request would be the best way to find out. Lennart97 (talk) 11:00, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
- That's a fair enough observation—I should note I don't personally believe either to be the primary topic, but the evidence seems to indicate otherwise. I think as it stands we have three options: 1) keep as is, redirecting Joy (musician) to the K-pop singer as "{{R from alternative disambiguation}}"; 2) disambiguate, with "Joy (musician)" redirecting to Joy (disambiguation) as "{{R from incomplete disambiguation}}"; or 3) proceed to move the Australian musician to the shorter disambiguation with a "{{Distinguish}}" hatnote (an unlikely solution, given the likelihood for confusion, but singer and musician do mean different things, so this may suit some people). Sean Stephens (talk) 11:46, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
- The Australian one seems to be primarly known as a singer, too, so I do think that invalidates option 3. I'd go for option 2; as the K-pop singer is certainly not primarily known as a "musician", but still could plausibly be referred to as one, redirecting Joy (musician) to the disambiguation page is probably safest. Yes, sorry, I meant 2. I mistyped. Sean Stephens (talk) 09:09, 19 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
