Bodega Club, Vancouver
editAlso known as the Bodega Saloon, this was the first private gentleman's club in Vancouver though it did open its lower floor to the general drinking public when located on the corner of Carrall & Cordova (where its building still stands as a steakhouse, and was known as the Boulder Saloon as well as the Bodega because of its stone-block facing). The original building is gone, but on its site at Carrall & Blood Alley is the .... third?....Bodega, built in 1898 and since rescued from demolition by conversion into artists' live-work condos and galleries, though with the original internal structure gutted; legend says Edward VII partied and gambled on this building's upper floor during his Vancouver visit in 1902-03 when Prince of Wales. The origin of the usage of the name Bodega here is not given in any building histories I've seen, other than the supposition that it's named after Bodega y Quadra in a sort of indirect way, as a Spanish name in the history of the region like Quadra is (Quadra Island, Quadra Street). My reservation about that theory is that "bodega" of course is a "drinking cellar" and a lot of these guys had been in California and other parts of Latin America; perhaps the use of the name was dual, on the one hand an allusion to Bodega y Quadra and on the other a reference simply to a place you drink in (though whiskey rather than wine was likeliy more commonly served). Anyway no article on the Bodega Club/Saloon yet and no precision in its name-origin, but ddropping mention of it here for future reference.Skookum1 (talk) 14:15, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Bodega, Bodega y Quadra, or even Quadra
editWhat is he known as: in my ignorance, i would think his patronymic would be Bodega, but he is mostly referred to in this article as Bodega y Quadra, and only a few times as Bodega. In other articles, he is even referred to as Quadra. TomS TDotO (talk) 09:58, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
