Art Noveau

edit

How was it different from Art Noveau? It would be great if there was a comparison. nadav 22:16, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • The issue here is largely geographical. Jugendstil is, for better or worse, the name by which art nouveau was known in German-speaking countries. Should this be incorporated in the article somewhere or is it assumed knowledge? Platinumbuddha 03:17, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Suggest merging this article with the main Art Nouveau page as PlatinumBuddha states, Jugendstil is the Germn-speaking country version of Art Nouveau. Having the two as different articles invites confusion 65.241.15.131 01:21, 13 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Nothing's been done here. I'm putting templates up to suggest the merge and will add the discussion to the Art Nouveau talk page. We're really beating around the bush calling it a cousin of, a relative of, the sailor's night off illegitimate offspring of, and so forth. In Germany one says Jugendstil for Art Nouveau. In English we often use the German term for examples in Germany and Germanic countries and the French term (admittedly more often) for French and Brussels examples. In Flemish Belgium, where the style is very popular, I often see the terms used interchangeably. It just becomes about regional variations and localised characteristics at that point. --Stomme (talk) 17:46, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
    16 years later. Still confusing. PascalC (talk) 12:06, 29 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Synagogue pic

edit

I'm an architectural novice, but I have added the picture of the synagogue on the basis that my source book, A Guide to the Buildings of Brighton, describes it as "an interesting example of pre-war architecture showing a strong hint of Viennese Jugendstil". Hope it's not too misleading! Hassocks5489 (talk) 20:12, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
