Julien Dubuque the fiddler

edit
Being a fiddler of Old Time music there is a fiddle tune played across the country and it's called Dubuque. I have played it many times in many circles with many people. It is known as a Missouri Fiddle Tune. I later found out why and this is the story that is told. Back in 1800 there was a big To-Do being held in St. Louis, Missouri for dignitaries and people who were exploring the western borders of our country. Julien Dubuque attended that meeting. It was said that after the important meeting had adjourned it was time for a big meal. Afterwards drink began to flow and various guests entertained. It's said that Julien Dubuque was a pretty good fiddler so he got up to entertain. While he played his fiddle, he danced as well and impressed many. He impressed another fiddler so much that the fiddler created the instrumental, Dubuque. And it is still played all over the Country and in some European circles today.

I'm sorry but I do not have any sources to cite on this. But it most certainly is a part of American Folklore. J. Shannon Fiddler About 20 miles North East of Dubuque, IA near New Diggings, WI. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wushushi (talkcontribs) 00:55, 3 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
