Disambiguation of the term juvenile
editI am working on the disambiguation list for the term juvenile. I hesitate to make any change to the pages referring to the term as a legal definition. There are several pages that make this kind of reference and generally they are referring to juvenile crime or juvenile delinquency. For this purpose, I don't believe that we have a precise definition. The choices on the disambiguation page for juvenile are child or adolescent. It appears to me that a link to one or the other of these is probably not precise. A child can be a juvenile delinquent but not all children can be a juvenile delinquent. For example, an infant is a child but an infant cannot be a juvenile delinquent. I believe that the actual definition should include both. I think that we probably need a topic that actually provides a legal definition for the term juvenile. IANAL, so, I'm not inclined to tackle the topic.

- I was working on the dab list at the same time, but focusing on the easy Juvenile (rapper) links. I've done about 30, and have a few more left to do. I wasn't going to touch the child juvenile for the same reasons as you. It needs some thought. Simon12 02:28, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- It isn't appropriate to simply delink use of juvenile in the sense of "not mature". It's the first meaning on the page. It's a useful link. Guettarda 04:19, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm going to create juvenile (animal) which covers the first definition. That should knock out another 20-30 links. Hopefully some experts can come along and add to it.Simon12 01:36 & 02:08, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- Turns out some of the links refer to plants, not animals. I left those alone, maybe someone can add a juvenile (plant), or expand juvenile (animal) to cover both.Simon12 02:08, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- I moved juvenile (animal) to juvenile (organism) to include the plant links.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Simon12 (talk • contribs) 02:45, 10 May 2006
I just found the page minor (law) which I think covers all the legal definitions for juvenile. I can create juvenile (law) and redirect to minor (law), and dab/change all the links to juvenile (law); or I can dab/change all the links directly to minor (law. I prefer the first, in case lawyers in the future want a separate entry for juvenile (law). Comments? Simon12 04:11, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- I like your first solution as well. Also, the juvenile (law) link can be added to the juvenile dab page and this will, I hope, be more friendly to others who might need to disambiguate the term in the future.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Crackerbelly (talk • contribs) 14:56, 10 May 2006
- I agree - good start. Guettarda 11:28, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

This is a disambiguation page and the term juvenile should go directly to minor. EdwinHJ | Talk 17:30, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Why to minor (law) as opposed to juvenile (organism)? Station1 (talk) 22:59, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Leave "Juvenile" as the disambiguation. Classic example of a need for a disambiguation page at the word. -- Infrogmation (talk) 02:44, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- Leave as disambig page. No move needed. Simon12 (talk) 04:36, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- Support move. Classic example of primary usage. Yes, there are other uses, but clearly the primary use of the term in reliable sources (which is what is most relevant in an encyclopedia, more than dictionary definitions or pop references on the web), as made evident by a search for juvenile at books.google.com, is for young people who are legal minors. --Born2cycle (talk) 18:32, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- Currently, the first disambig line in page Juvenile points to Juvenile (law)), which is a redirect to Minor (law). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:12, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
