I have chosen to create this article as part of a project for a course on automatic sequences. My goal is to make the article easy to read and understand by following a clear structure and adding a reasonable amount of detail. Ideally, this article will be understandable to a reader with an undergraduate education in mathematics or computer science. This article is closely related to the articles on automatic sequences and k-regular sequences, both of which I have also been working on as part of my project. If you have any concerns, feel free to contact me.
