  • Sammi Brie! good to see you again. this will be my third dyk review, so apologies if i end up making any errors. any suggestions or advice is welcome.
    • general: article prose has been expanded more than fivefold recently.
    • policy: article is sourced and neutral. i am assuming good faith regarding the offline sources about the killing. earwig shows nothing of concern.
    • hooks: both hooks are under 200 characters, interesting, accurate, cited, and neutral.
      • one of the sources provided is offline, but i found another reliable source stating the same thing.
      • there appears to have been two owners of the station at the time of the killing, but making it clear that only one of the owners was killed may detract from the hook.
    • qpq: provided.
    • points outside of the dyk criteria:

  • There was one active owner and officer and a passive shareholder.
  • Thanks for catching that.
  • The articles I have from The Advocate describe him as 21. Not sure how his age got changed to 19 in some sources, but I agree with 21 here. I uncovered a 2017 obituary for what is nearly certainly the same man—the last name is unusual—and he was 46 (25 years later). e.g. An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury indicted Fajoni, 21, for second-degree murder for Bathen's death on April 30. I would like to note that I made the decision not to print his name in this article because he was acquitted (I also asked at WP:DISCORD). There are a few details about the crime that I also felt were too much to print, especially because of the whiplash from "owner slain after propositioning guy for gay sex" to "station owned by high school". This was a tough one to get the right tone on.
  • I have added a citation to explain the OK Group name. There may be an article at the title in the future—this was a regionally important station group out of New Orleans, and the stations it started tended to become heritage outlets for the Black community. Several of the OK Group stations have now come through DYK this year. It appears that, like in Memphis and apparently New Orleans as well, they made several trade-ups in the 1960s to get stations that broadcast at night (which is why WXOK is another article and one I may end up improving). WBOK also needs attention. The OK portfolio historically has overlapped poorly with the newspapers I have available to me...but that's changing.
    • yeah, i had figured that the suspect was probably 21 at the time, as the sources cited in the article appeared to have more extensive coverage of the matter. however, i thought it was odd that the only two online sources i could find about the killing both mentioned that he was 19, so i thought i might raise the issue. it hadn't occurred to me to simply search for his name, and now that i have seen his obituary, it's clear that both online sources appear to have somehow made the same mistake.
i agree that the killer's name is better left out of the article. also, i think you were successful in achieving a proper tone here, as i assume that your sources covered the case in a lot more detail, while the facts mentioned here did not seem excessive or sparse and were presented in a neutral manner. thanks for addressing these issues! dying (talk) 21:00, 22 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
