Made a couple of changes earlier to reflect how KCOS started. The station did debut on Channel 7 in 1978, and KVIA was on Channel 13 at the time. The way I remember it, KCOS and KVIA wanted to do a channel swap so the ABC affiliate would be on Channel 7, and thus adapting the Circle 7 logo.

The KCOS-7 logo when it debuted was a circle of 7s to make it look like a sun.

Article name

edit

I have moved this article back to KCOS from KCOS-TV. Consensus on both WP:NC#Broadcasting and Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Television_Stations#Article_names is that the article name should reflect the actual call letters of the TV station. As can be seen here: [1] the call letters for this station are in fact KCOS. Any concerns regarding this topic would be best addressed here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Television_Stations. Fair use rationale for Image:Kcos pbs13 el paso tx.jpg

edit

Image:Kcos pbs13 el paso tx.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 15:43, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • "However, in 2019, Texas Tech Public Media" - not sure "however" is needed
  • Suspect "originally allocated" wants a hyphen, as they're acting as a single idea
  • "as it was felt" do we know who by?
    • No
  • Do we know what changed by 1970?
  • "while activities began in the community" what activities? Fundraising? Building?
  • "remainder of the funds" do we know the total cost or just what the community had raised?
  • "However, Walton's donation was imperiled" however not needed here either esp at the beginning of a para
  • "[18][19][a][21]" this is a total nitpick but shouldn't efns be either at the beginning or the end of a bunch of refs?
  • "perceived "liberal" content" v important to reject public TV to own the libs
  • "KCOS also was barred under Texas law" - I assume the background is that KCOS, as a public television station, could not get funding from the state but currently it seems to read that KCOS was barred because it was KCOS and Texas was being Texasy
  • "As a result, the station" I might split the para at this sentence, as it's kind of large
  • Para 2 under growth could maybe use a link to Hispanics and Latinos in Texas?
  • Might want to mention that years of the Great Recession, since it's getting to be long enough ago that people might not remember that reflexively (*shudder*)
  • Sources reliable, single image non-free and appropriate, no CV/close para. Spot checks turned up no concerns.

That's all I got! Gonna pass it, treat the above as suggestions. ♠PMC(talk) 04:45, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Improved to Good Article status by Sammi Brie (talk). Self-nominated at 01:08, 27 August 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/KCOS (TV); consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.Reply

  •   New enough (recently improved to GA), NPOV, long enough, and definitely an interesting hook sourced to RS (El Paso Times; the inline citation does not contain the exact words "before it even began broadcasting" but it's self-evident from context). Earwig returns 5.7% (violation unlikely). No image. QPQ done. Looks good! Chetsford (talk) 03:36, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
