Kachāshī vs Katcharsee
editWHY is there an alternate Romanization for this word? Was there a different romanization other than the Nipponshiki and/or the Hepburn system? I want to say that this word originally existed in an Okinawan language. "R" never precedes the consonant "s" in any Japanese dialect, so I am thinking that "katcharsee" was an attempt at Romanizing a non-Japanese word. Indeed "kachāshī" sounds like a direct katakanization of "katcharsee" (カチャーシー). It would be nice to know the etymological origin of this word.KogeJoe (talk) 05:01, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
