- "Construction began on the ships" Isn't better two turn it around and say "construction of the ships began"?
- "in late 1863 and early 1864" --> "'between late 1863 and early 1864" would be better?
- "they were still building" this "they" refers to the ship or to the shipyards? if it refers to the ships, the "been built" will fit better.
- "to new several new ship naming" is it necessary to say "new" twice?
- Final comments
