Parent

While it was stated that there was a parent company, that company is not listed. Could someone please add that? Thanks. - KitchM (talk) 18:46, 19 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Details

edit

This article also needs expansion on some details. For instance, what are the departments and what are the areas of interest they cover. Also, there are no phone numbers or personnel names. Further, there is no detail about the policy, focus or political leanings of this paper. - KitchM (talk) 18:49, 19 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

History

edit

I've taken a stab at filling in the history of the Gazette between its founding and 2011, beginning with a list of its editors / publishers. This relies mainly on presentation of the same info on the Kalamazoo Public Library page on this newspaper (however the recent formatting collapsed two columns into one, so I referenced the March 2019 version on Archive.org issue corrected 11/11/19). Am replacing the "frequent changes" from 1862-1870 with some specifics. It is known, for example, that J.W. Mansur was the owner/editor from Nov. 1862 until some time after April 1865, and that several people in different combinations ran the paper after Mansur and before A.J. Shakespeare. --A12n (talk) 20:09, 10 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

An obit for Joseph Lomax indicated that Wilbur F. Storey collaborated with him at one point on the Gazette ("Oldest Mason In World Dies—Former Kazoo Man," Kalamazoo Telegraph-Press, April 27, 1914, page 9. Text & reference seen on another site). However Storey's name does not appear in any other sources concerning the Gazette. --A12n (talk) 17:34, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Per Justin Walsh's biography of Storey, the latter did have a business relationship with Lomax, but many years earlier (1838-41) at the LaPorte Herald in Indiana - and that did not end on a positive note. The obit reference of a partnership on the Gazette would appear then to be a reporter's conflation of separate past events. One imagines Storey would have been too busy with the Chicago Times during the period in question (late 1860s) to get involved with a small city paper as well. --A12n (talk) 06:50, 17 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
