editJust a word definition, so has been proposed to move to Wiktionary. Note there are a few links that would turn read if so. W Nowicki (talk) 17:18, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

- No point in using apostrophe. Okinas are okay to use now like in ʻIolani Palace when not using the version without any glottal stop.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 17:01, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
- I would oppose a move to Kamaʻāina - which may be technically correct but makes it even harder for English speakers to search for and recognize. I would be OK with a move to simply Kamaaina without any diacritical marks; that page currently exists as a redirect to this page. I notice that the articles Hawaii, Kauai, Molokai etc. omit the glottal stop from the article title, and we should probably follow that pattern. See Talk:Hawaii#correct spelling of Hawai'i. --MelanieN (talk) 18:21, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
- Note also that the spelling with no apostrophe or okina is still fairly common in Hawaii, as for example this from Honolulu Magazine. --MelanieN (talk) 18:29, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

- Oppose. 19,500 post-1980 Google Book results for "Kamaaina", 7,530 for "Kama'aina", two for "Kamaʻāina" (both Hawaiian misclassified as English). Titles are for navigation. Non-typeable characters should not be used without a good reason. Kauffner (talk) 19:08, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
- I don't really care if there is no okina at all. I just don't want an apostrophe to be used which is incorrect. If someone would like to propose to move all the article titles with okinas or apostrophes in place of okinas to be changed to ones with no okina or apostrophes. Like Hawaii rather than Hawaiʻi or Hawai'i. There are these that I've found but it's not all of them and I don't know how to track down everyone of them. Ahupua'a, Ho'okipa, Ali'i, Ha'ula Beach, Lilikala Kame'eleihiwa, Maui No Ka 'Oi Magazine, Pa'ao, Ho'olaule'a.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 00:14, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
- oppose changing the title to the proposed name would make it vertually impossible for non native hawains to find this page. those symbals certaintly are not on my keypadMillertime246 (talk) 00:25, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
Counter-proposal Based on the comments above and the precedent set by articles such as Hawaii, Kauai and Molokai, I propose that the current article be renamed Kamaaina, with redirects from Kama'aina and possibly Kamaʻāina. This will require administrator intervention, since Kamaaina already exists as a redirect to this page. --MelanieN (talk) 05:47, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Kama'aina → Kamaʻāina – The specific reasons which opposed to rename the article in 2011 are outdated now. Non-typeable characters are part of the widely accepted unicode standard and therefore don't create search problems anymore. Redirects ensure the successful search for all users. --ThT (talk) 13:36, 28 April 2020 (UTC)—Relisting. Jerm (talk) 18:37, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
- I have no objection, as long as Kama'aina and Kamaaina remain redirects. -- MelanieN (talk) 18:39, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
- It will need to be fixed in the article text as well, which mostly just says kamaaina. -- MelanieN (talk) 18:54, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
