Why "infamous"?

edit

The original writer states, "The Kane Gang are infamous for providing the music for the 'Ooh Gary Davies...on your radio' jingle . . . ." Is this mere ignorance (did the writer intend to convey the meaning of "famous" instead?), or was the music rooted in or did it result in infamy?

I'd like to know! Firstorm (talk) 23:41, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Frankly, from my own memory, the Kane Gang were neither infamous nor famous for this feat (or honestly, any other for that matter). At best they were oddly noteworthy - perhaps it was deemed (vaguely) strange for a pop group to be supplying a jingle for a disc jockey - certainly not unique though. The present article's wording is at fault. Although you may struggle to find a better source than I can provide.

It wasn't unusual for Radio 1 jingles to be bastardised versions of records of the time. I'm also not convinved that the Davies jingle was even them - it sounded like a "Topo of the Pops"-album style pastiche to me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.102.121.85 (talk) 12:23, 10 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
