What does Duch mean? Does this word have any particular meaning?
editI'm Polish and in my language Duch (pronounced dooh] means exactly "Ghost" so for years, when I was reading Polish newspapers and articles I thought that this was a Polish TRANSLATION of his nom de guerre. Now, to my suprise I have just discovered that Duch [pronounced roughly "Deuch" or "Diuk"] is in fact a TRANSLITERATION of some Khmer word so my question is - does this word mean something? Now I know that it doesn't mean "Ghost" for sure but is there any meaning in it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.22.27.20 (talk) 17:01, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
- i always assumed it was french or psuedo-french meaning "leader" somehow, similar to italian "il duce" or the english term "duke". any khmer speakers here clear this up pls?! 67.150.82.192 (talk) 06:46, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Kang Kek Iew vs Kang Kek Lew
editI am not familiar with the Cambodia language, so I'm going to ask. Is this name capitalized correctly? English names capitalize all first letters. Example, John Jacob Smith. However, I know that not all lanugae do, so Kang Kek lew may be correct using the lowercase "lew" instead of the uppercase "Lew". So I’m asking, is this correct, or do we need to replace all the “l”’s with “L”’s. I have absolute no idea.
- It's an "i" not an "L". Cmacauley (talk) 01:29, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- OK, now I feel like an idiot. Thank you for clarifying the obvious for me. The whole time I thought it was an "L" even though the "I" was staring me in the face. Again, thanks.--ARTEST4ECHO talk 12:57, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Age-date discrepancy
editThe article states that he was born in 1942, and that "he passed his Brevet d'Etudes Secondaire de Première in 1961 at the age of fifteen". Only one of these statements can be true. ---Sluzzelin talk 14:11, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- More accurately he may have been born in 1942 and passed the Brevet d'Etudes Secondaire de Première in 1961 but not at the age of fifteen (seem a fairly late age to get a secondary qualification particularly in those days) or he may have been born in 1942 and passed his Brevet d'Etudes Secondaire de Première at the age of fifteen but not in 1961 or he passed his Brevet d'Etudes Secondaire de Première in 1961 at the age of fifteen but wasn't born in 1942 :-P Nil Einne (talk) 09:13, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
The image of the young Iek... doesn't look like a 17 year-old boy; maybe he's 7 ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.84.199.70 (talk) 22:24, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- According to the Duncan book the photo shows Kang Kek Eau aged about 17. Until we find a better source, we have to stay with the 17. Thaths (talk) 21:55, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
Trial section needs to be written better
editThe Trial section of the article was written piecemeal as the trial was happening and there were many twists and turns. Now that we have had time for the trial and its aftermath to sink in, I think this section needs to be rewritten to read better than a chronology of dates and events. -- Thaths (talk) 23:01, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Drive By Citation Needed is making me less motivated to contribute to this article
editThere has been a recent spate of adding citation needed tags to every single sentence of this article. Honestly, this is passive aggressiveness couched as earnestness. I am losing my motivation to contribute to this article (which I have done significantly over the years). The calls for citation are overly aggressive, in my opinion, because:
- Every. Single. Sentence cannot be cited. Usually, paragraphs are written with the citation for the preceding few sentences being cited at the end of the collection of sentences.
- The article will be come unreadable if Every. Single. Sentence. Is. Cited.
I have read articles of how some overeager editors have driven contributors away from contributing to Wikipedia. I see a prime example of this in action in this article.
