Temperature Units?
editAllegedly summer temperatures have risen 10 degrees and winter temperatures have decreased by 10 degrees, and the number of health and respiratory problems has risen dramatically.
Is this 10 degrees Celcius, or Fahrenheit? When someone finds out, can the page please be updated?

Can we get the map in English, please ?
editMany of the words seem to have "O" where an "A" belongs in English, like IRON versus IRAN. An English version would be much appreciated. Thanks. StuRat (talk) 05:06, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Karakalpak region names
editWhy the Karakalpak region names are written in uzbek language? I think they should be written in Karakalpak language PirjanovNurlan (talk) 18:28, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- Because the Uzbek transliterations are the common names in the English language. Yue🌙 20:22, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- From my point of view, most of the names in Karakalpak language are closer to those in English than Uzbek language. PirjanovNurlan (talk) 04:26, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
- The Wikipedia policy I highlighted (WP:COMMONNAME) is based on evidence, not opinions. I did a quick Google search to see if the Uzbek or Karakalpak transliterations were more commonly used in English media, and the former was by far the predominant one. For example, "Nukus" returns 2,480,000 results, while "Nokis" and "Nókis" return 698,000 and 75,400, respectively. It is worth noting that "Nokis" is the name of things other than the capital of Karakalpakstan. If you want to advocate a general move from Uzbek names to Karakalpak names contrary to WP:COMMONNAME, as was the case with the Ukrainian names of cities such as Kyiv and Odesa, you will have to base your arguments on Wikipedia's policies and start a much bigger discussion. Apparent contradiction in statements about possibility of secession
editUnder the heading "Politics: Autonomous status", the two final sentences of the first paragraph appear to contradict each other. To wit: "(Karakalpakstan's) right to secede is limited by the veto power of Uzbekistan's legislature over any decision to secede...'The Republic of Karakalpakstan shall have the right to secede from the Republic of Uzbekistan on the basis of a nationwide referendum held by the people of Karakalpakstan'." (emphases added) The first sentence says the legislature can veto "any decision to secede", whereas the second says that the "right to secede" is based upon "a nationwide referendum" of the people. So, the people can vote to secede, but the legislature can veto it? I am unfamiliar with any examples of legislatures that have veto power over popular votes; the two are independent of each other. Legislatures make laws, they do not countermand the will of the electorate. Can anyone reconcile these two seemingly contradictory statements? Bricology (talk) 20:47, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
Name
editKarakalpakstan or Karakalpakistan? Neither is consistently used in this article, and if they are synonyms, it should be mentioned in the first sentence. Weltengeist (talk) 08:29, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
