Name Origin?

Does anyone have a source for the origin of the name "Karinto"? A brief googling does not seem to yield any useful results. The kanji name 花林糖 given suggests "flower-forest-sugar", but if this is ateji as stated - characters used for sound only, not meaning - then there must be a foreign / other origin for the name itself?
