Source problems

edit

There is no doubt that Kashiko Kawakita is a "notable" figure and that she deserves an article on Wikipedia. However, this particular article has sourcing — and, thereby, notability — problems. To begin with, almost 85% of this article's citations are to the same one source. And, as far as I can tell, that source is not available in any new or used bookstores. Does this book exist? Strangely, I don't doubt that it does. A Google search of both "wreath for madame kawakita" and "biography of madame kawakita" bring up many hits that describe Kashiko Kawakita. (By the way, this is how I know that she's a notable subject for a Wikipedia article.) But none of these hits are related to a book called A Wreath for Madame Kawakita. Nor are they related to a book or book chapter or article called "A Biography of Madame Kawakita."

As result, someone who's invested in this article should attempt to diversify the sources -- particularly with ones to which the general public has access. Thanks. Cheers, ask123 (talk) 01:10, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Kawakita (and her husband, by the way) is very deserving of a Wikipedia entry. As has been noted, this article relies on only a single, rare source, likely a pamphlet published for one of the centenary celebrations in 2008. There are other sources available, such as this obit in the Independent. The problem is that the existing article does not only cite just one source, it is entirely composed of quotes from that source. That makes it hard to rewrite this (and broaches problems of copyright). It has to be started again from scratch.--Michitaro (talk) 05:43, 9 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hopefully, some of these issues are now addressed.MChew (talk) 02:55, 1 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
