This is a very special place either on or very close to Scotland's watershed which would have been very important to ancient peoples.
There is a landmark stone sticking out in the road to Shotts close by, and a bronze age cairn on the other side of the main road which may also have been connected.
Kirk o'Shotts was St Katherine of Sienna's Chapel before the reformation and may well have been known as another K o'S pre Christianisation.
