Name Discrepancy

edit

Her birth name and father's name have been confounded. Summary box says she was born "Callie Russell Porter." Article says "Callie Boone Porter" and mother's name. It appears a line here has been dropped.

Source for quote?

edit

What is the source for the quote "I have lost children in all the ways one can." used in the article?

What's Wikipedia's policy on quote sections? Were I less afraid of backlash, I'd destroy the whole Quotes section and point readers to Wikiquote. It's a disproportionately large part of this article. Spamguy 18:32, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm going to cut it out in two days if nobody objects. Malinaccier (talk) 23:59, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nvm, I'm cutting it out now. If anyone objects, then respond here and we can discuss. Malinaccier (talk) 00:15, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Katherine Anne Porter House

edit

I came to this article hoping to find some information on the "Katherine Anne Porter House" (dedicated in 2002) since there isn't an article on the historical site. I was surprised to find that this article doesn't even mention it. I am not a Katherine Anne Porter expert so I hesitate to alter the article myself.Nrswanson (talk) 23:28, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I visited some of the external websites and found the Wiki entry to come almost exclusively from PBS: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/episodes/katherine-anne-porter/about-katherine-anne-porter/686/

Isn't this a copyright infringement?

If it is literally copied or barely rephrased yes. But if the content of that site is retold by some editor in his own words it is not. however the side should be mentioned as a source.--Kmhkmh (talk) 06:58, 30 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Birth name

edit

Was her birth middle name "Russell" (infobox) or "Russel" (Biography section)? The cited reference to New York Times requires a subscription. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:49, 1 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Brewster Ghiselin's "The Ring"

edit

Note 1 reads "Brewster Ghiselin wrote a poem called "The Ring" that is an allusion to the marriage-suicide." What can this possibly mean? Neither Erskine Jr. nor, obviously, Porter died of suicide. Notably, Erskine's father, Erskine Sr., did, but as he was not the one married to Porter and died several years before the marriage, that cannot be what the note is referring to. Further, I can find no information about "The Ring" on the Internet (having searched multiple databases in addition to Google &c), so I'm not sure how to clear this up.136.50.223.19 (talk) 22:27, 27 March 2022 (UTC) note -- I wasn't logged in when I made that ^ addition re: "The Ring", but I just logged in now to properly record it. Marriage to Ernest Stock

edit

There isn't any source besides Joan Givner's Porter: A Life that mentions Porter being married to Ernest Stock. Other biographers imply a relationship with Stock but there doesn't seem to be evidence they were ever married. Songbird490 (talk) 21:36, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sexual Orientation

edit

I am reading Truman Capote's "Answered Prayers". The first chapter contains the following: "There have been several intellectual lesbians of physical distinction: Colette, Gertrude Stein, Willa Cather, Ivy Compton-Burnett, Carson McCullers, Jane Bowles; and, in altogether another category, simple endearing prettiness, both Eleanor Clark and Katherine Anne Porter deserve their reputations."

Capote, Truman. Answered Prayers (Vintage International) (p. 13). Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. Kindle Edition.

Is there any evidence for his assertion that she was a lesbian? 173.72.148.58 (talk) 23:41, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
