Page move
editIt would have been more civilized to use "Discussion" before moving the page to a name order that Yokoyama does not use. See the link for the name order he prefers. Let's undo the page move, then discuss here, as should have been done in the first place, thanks. Badagnani 19:48, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- I apologize to have offended you. Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles)#Names is not usually a controversial subject, so I went ahead and made the changes. The guideline is used for standardization among all Japan-related articles on Wikipedia, and redirects remain in place. Japanese people almost exclusively use the naming order family name-given name, but that isn't our convention. This isn't really a content dispute, so I don't think that reverting the changes is appropriate in this case. Dekimasuよ! 20:12, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for clarification. With Chinese names, there is a great variety in the individuals' name order, and we use their personal preference. I don't see why that wouldn't also be the case for Japanese who prefer that their name be given surname first, though perhaps there aren't as many of these as there are in the Chinese culture. - Nearly all Japanese people prefer their surnames while in Japan, but I think there's little feeling that this is necessary for purposes of ethnic/national identity. In my experience, because there is little variation within a given context (always family-given domestically, always given-family in Western news sources), it doesn't tend to be an issue. Likewise, as a Westerner, I have followed the family-given convention since I came to Japan. Dekimasuよ! 20:38, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Regarding Chinese individuals, there are those like Wu Man and Liu Qi-chao who put their surnames first, and others like Qiu Xia He who put their surnames last. Badagnani 20:42, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- About your edit concerning the name of the website ("no way are you changing..." is a little harsh — I suppose we can both be offended once today?), I changed the order in accordance with the other alterations, and without much thought. While the header uses "Yokoyama Katsuya", it almost exclusively cites a profile called "The World of Katsuya Yokoyama". I'll just leave it the way it is now. Dekimasuよ! 20:38, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
I looked again. You're quite right. Badagnani 20:42, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
