II?
editIf you have the exact same name as your father you become Jr. not II. II is used if your first name is the same but a different middle name or from a previous generation such as a grandfather or another family member other than the father. Now if a Jr. names his son the exact same name, he becomes a III. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 240F:31:34B4:1:3187:2D8E:A38E:F78C (talk) 06:14, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- FWIW, Suffix (name)#Generational titles says either Jr. or II can be used. At any rate, Wikipedia generally refers to people by their WP:COMMONNAME used in sources. Some people like David Arseneault Jr. or Will Rogers Jr. get referred to as "Jr" even when their middle name is different from their father's.—Bagumba (talk) 06:28, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
Sons' birth years
edit@Harper J. Cole: According to 1987 Chargers media guide, Justin was born in 1982 and Kellen II in 1983,[1] which conflicts with the article currently saying they were both born in 1983. But then a source about Justin's death says that he is the younger one.[2]—Bagumba (talk) 05:26, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Bagumba: I've found this, which puts his date of birth in 1983.[3] My guess is that the two sons being born so close together caused some confusion for writers who didn't realise they had different mothers (celebrities' romantic entanglements weren't covered as closely back then as they are today). I don't mind a more neutral wording if you feel there's a reasonable doubt, though. Harper J. Cole (talk) 13:16, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Harper J. Cole: WP:FINDAGRAVE-EL is not a reliable source though. —Bagumba (talk) 13:32, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Bagumba: I wasn't aware of that. Since the reliable sources point in three different directions, we could drop mention of their dates of birth until more decisive evidence is found. Something like this: Winslow has been married twice. During his first marriage he had two sons born to two different women: Kellen Winslow II to his then wife and Justin Winslow to another woman with whom he was involved at the time. Kellen Winslow II also played tight end in the NFL. (With the same citations as are currently there.) Harper J. Cole (talk) 17:27, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'd just leave it at two sons, one with wife, another with girlfriend. Are the sources clear on when his divorce was finalized? I think I only saw that he also filed for divorce in 1983. I'm wary of WP:UNDUE emphasis on the timing, and as a WP:BLP I'd feel more comfortable with at least another source corrobrating this timeline. Otherwise, WP:INTEXT atttribution would be the way to go, if this has to stay. —Bagumba (talk) 11:39, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not sure when the divorce was. How about, Winslow has been married twice. He had two sons, with Kellen Winslow II born to his first wife and Justin Winslow to a further woman with whom he had a relationship. Kellen Winslow II also played tight end in the NFL. Harper J. Cole (talk) 12:10, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
