I removed the NASDAQ acronyms because it started the whole article off with an advertising tone...My edit summary got hosed because of "an itchy thumb" lol - actually this was from this tiny laptop I'm using. My palm keeps touching the touch pad. It's taking some time to get used to. E dog95 00:52, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

This reads like an advertisement straight out of their brochure - hardly the encyclopedic article I was looking for. --67.41.201.191 (talk) 05:48, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

For some reason a flurry of editors have changed the text of the opening paragraph to match the contents of Kelly Serives website. I'm continuously reverting it to a non-copyright violation version.

I reverted some copyvio additions but the old version is scoring 83.6% on Earwig's Copyvio Detector when compared to http://www.studymode.com/essays/a-Report-On-Kelly-Service-Inc-1660130.html. This is actually a worse score than before I revered it. I was going to gut out all offending paragraphs but the content is referenced well enough that it made me wonder if Studymode are copying from us.

Please can anybody have a look and offer opinions on this? If we are plagiarising them then most of the article has to be deleted but if their article is based on our content then we will do nothing of the sort. --DanielRigal (talk) 19:25, 18 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Given the source, it's likely that studymode copied from Wikipedia. The current version is pretty straightforward and neutral. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:56, 14 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

The above is an improvement to the current article in the following ways:

  • the Infobox parameters have been copied over to the complete, up-to-date Infobox template
  • the Infobox has been updated with the company's former names, address, and areas served
  • Terence E. Adderley's title has been changed from "Chairman" to "Executive Chairman", which is more accurate
  • services are now displayed using the "Flatlist" template
  • revenue figures and the number of employees has been updated, with sources provided
  • the lead is updated and better sourced

Given the above discussion about the wording of the introduction, specifically whether it presented a copyright issue, I've taken steps to try to prepare appropriate wording that complies with Wikipedia's guidelines. I am hoping to find someone who is willing to implement this edit request on my behalf. I prefer not to edit the article directly given my conflict of interest. Thank you. • Jane KS, I'm impressed. It's seldom that we see a PAID editor striving to make an article less promotional. Thank you. I'd leave this set for a couple days and if no one voices a concern, go ahead and add it. I'll check back in a few days. The page has less than 30 people watching it, so that's why no one addressed your edit request. Feel free to ping me if you have others. Great job! Thanks. - John from Idegon (talk) 18:53, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
The changes to the intro look good to me, definitely an improvement. Are you proposing to remove the "History" section, or did you not include that above because you're leaving that as is for now? OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:20, 10 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I edit from an Android and cannot execute this change as it involves copying more data than my buffer will allow. i crash every time. John from Idegon (talk) 19:00, 10 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I updated the page with the proposed edits. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:08, 10 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Kelly Services, Inc. (formerly Russell Kelly Office Service and Kelly Girl Service, Inc.) is an American office staffing company that operates globally.[2][4][5][6] The company offers an array of professional services, placing employees in various sectors including recruitment, human resource management, vendor management, and outplacement.[4] Additionally, Kelly provides staffing on a temporary, temp-to-hire, and permanent placement basis, working as a global talent solutions provider in areas including finance, science, engineering, education, office, call center, light industrial, and more.[2][4] Kelly Services was founded by William Russell Kelly in 1946, is headquartered in Troy, Michigan.[2][7] In 2018, the company reported $5.5 billion in revenue, and placed 500,000 employees to work in positions in various sectors,[8][9] making it one of the world's largest staffing firms.[10]

History

Founded in 1946 by William Russell Kelly, the company was originally named Russell Kelly Office Service. [11][12] Services were provided in-house at the Kelly office. However, as customer offices grew and needed more resources, they began to ask for the Kelly employees to perform the work at their own offices. Temporary workers from Russell Kelly Office Service soon became known as ‘Kelly Girls’.[13] Adelaide Hess Moran, the first Kelly temporary employee to work at a customer’s office was promptly dubbed the first ‘Kelly Girl’.

By 1955, the business had opened 35 offices across the country.[14] As a result of its new business model, the company changed its name to Kelly Girl Service, Inc.® in 1957. [11] Eventually, ‘Kelly girl’ became the widely used term for a temporary worker, regardless of gender or company affiliation. [13]

The early 1960s reflected a trend of expansion for Kelly in terms of its offices and services. By 1966, the company had expanded to include a range of services — namely, an industrial division and technical services division — and was renamed Kelly Services, Inc.® to reflect these changes.[15]

Kelly opened its first international office in Ontario in 1968; this marked the beginning of the opening of a number of other offices and branches. After opening its headquarters in Southfield, Michigan in 1969, the company opened European offices in Paris and London in 1972 and 1973, respectively. By 1978, Kelly moved to its present-day headquarters’ location in Troy, Michigan. The service offerings of Kelly continued to expand to include healthcare, under its Kelly Health Care division, in 1976. [16] With the introduction of an outsourcing and consulting division, by the end of the 1990s, Kelly had become the largest scientific staffing company, and the only company to employ staff in scientific sectors on a global scale.[17]. This was the result of Kelly creating ‘Kelly Scientific Resources’ in 1995, which specialized in temporary staff for scientific endeavors. [18]

Recent History

Kelly currently offers services including outsourcing and consulting, and staffing solutions from over 70 years of experience with temporary staffing.[19] Its gradual expansion of services has allowed the business to assist with both the hiring process for employees, and for companies looking for specialized employees. With employees being hired globally in engineering, scientific, and office-based industries, Kelly remains one of the world’s largest staffing firms.[20][21]

As of 2019, the CEO of Kelly is Peter Quigley. [22]

  • Exact, verbatim descriptions of any text and/or references to be removed needs to be given.[1] Reasons why each change is sought should also be provided.[2] Your request states only that it wishes to "add new claims" or "remove outdated claims". In Wikipedia there is no such thing as an "outdated claim". If the claim is that a company made X amount of dollars for 2018, that claim would not be deleted because the amount the company made in 2019 was a different amount. Both claims ought to be retained.[a] If these claims are to be removed because they are incorrect, then it should be stated how and in what way they are incorrect.
  • In the section of text below titled Sample edit request, an example for how incorrect claims are to be fixed is shown:
Sample edit request

1. Please remove the third sentence from the second paragraph of the Sun section:

"The Sun's diameter is estimated to be approximately 25 miles in length."

2. Please add the following claim as the third sentence of the second paragraph of the Sun section:

"The Sun's diameter is estimated to be approximately 864,337 miles in length."

3. Using as the reference:

Paramjit Harinath (2019). The Sun. Academic Press. p. 1.

4. Reason for change being made:

"The previously given diameter was incorrect. The Harinath source indicates that the diameter is 864,337 miles, a figure which has been confirmed by other references listed in Astronomer's Almanac, Science Quarterly, etc."
  • Claims to be added to the article should be kept separate and distinct from claims to be modified.
  • All references proposed to be added to the article ought to be formatted using whichever citation style is already in use with the article.
  • Kindly open a new edit request at your earliest convenience when ready to proceed with the verbatim text to be removed, the specific reasons for removal, along with the claims to be added and their reasons. Thank you!

4. Reason for change being made:

"The beginning of the first sentence of the paragraph is redundant — the ‘Kelly Girls’ temporary worker information was already expressed in the fourth sentence of the first paragraph. Adding new first sentence in second paragraph flows a bit more naturally and expresses expansion of the company respective to offices and business model.”
History edit request 2

3. Using as the reference:

"History of Kelly Services, Inc. – FundingUniverse". www.fundinguniverse.com.[9]

4. Reason for change being made:

"New second paragraph would mostly refer to the 50s, while this third paragraph would transition into summarising events of the 60s. This new sentence would specify some of the newly offered services with more detail, while expressing the same overall point. Another new sentence prior could lead into this new sentence/new paragraph: The early 1960s reflected a trend of expansion for Kelly in terms of its offices and services. [new spot for 'third sentence' from original 'second paragraph']”

1. Please remove the first sentence from the last paragraph of the “History” section:

Kelly Services, Inc. (formerly Russell Kelly Office Service and Kelly Girl Service, Inc.) is an American office staffing company that operates globally.[3][4][13][14] Kelly provides staffing on a temporary, temp-to-hire, and permanent placement basis, working as a global talent solutions provider in areas including finance, science, engineering, education, office, call center, light industrial, and more.[3][4] The company also offers an array of professional services, placing employees in various sectors including recruitment, human resource management, vendor management, and outplacement.[4] Kelly Services was founded by William Russell Kelly in 1946, is headquartered in Troy, Michigan.[3][15] In 2018, the company reported $5.5 billion in revenue, and placed 500,000 employees to work in positions in various sectors,[16][17] making it one of the world's largest staffing firms.[18]

History

edit

Founded in 1946 by William Russell Kelly, the company was originally named Russell Kelly Office Service. [7][19] Services were provided in-house at the Kelly office. However, as customer offices grew and needed more resources, they began to ask for the Kelly employees to perform the work at their own offices. Temporary workers from Russell Kelly Office Service soon became known as ‘Kelly Girls’.[20] Adelaide Hess Moran, the first Kelly temporary employee to work at a customer’s office was promptly dubbed the first ‘Kelly Girl’.

By 1955, the business had opened 35 offices across the country.[21] As a result of its new business model, the company changed its name to Kelly Girl Service, Inc.® in 1957. [7] Eventually, ‘Kelly girl’ became the widely used term for a temporary worker, regardless of gender or company affiliation. [20]

The early 1960s reflected a trend of expansion for Kelly in terms of its offices and services. By 1966, the company had expanded to include a range of services — namely, an industrial division and technical services division — and was renamed Kelly Services, Inc.® to reflect these changes.[22]

Kelly opened its first international office in Ontario in 1968; this marked the beginning of the opening of a number of other offices and branches. After opening its headquarters in Southfield, Michigan in 1969, the company opened its first European offices in Paris and London in 1972 and 1973, respectively. By 1978, Kelly moved to its present-day headquarters’ location in Troy, Michigan. The service offerings of Kelly continued to expand to include healthcare, under its Kelly Health Care division, in 1976. [23] With the introduction of an outsourcing and consulting division, by the end of the 1990s, Kelly had become the largest scientific staffing company, and the only company to employ staff in scientific sectors on a global scale.[24]. This was the result of Kelly creating ‘Kelly Scientific Resources’ in 1995, which specialized in temporary staff for scientific endeavors. [25]

Recent History

edit

Kelly currently offers services including outsourcing and consulting, and staffing solutions from over 70 years of experience with temporary staffing.[26] Its gradual expansion of services has allowed the business to assist with both the hiring process for employees, and for companies looking for specialized employees. With employees being hired globally in engineering, scientific, and office-based industries, Kelly remains one of the world’s largest staffing firms.[27][28]

As of 2019, the CEO of Kelly is Peter Quigley. [29]

  1. ^ The request asks to expand the descriptions of services offered by the company, which is not the purpose of the Wikipedia article. See WP:NOTBROCHURE.
  2. ^ This claim, of being "one of the worlds largest staffing firms", should not be referenced by the company alone. An identical claim for the year 2015 already exists in the article. That claim is referenced by the Chicago Tribune — which as a 2014 reference, would not automatically pertain to 2018.
  3. ^ The reason given for this change is that the Kelly Girls temporary worker information was already expressed in the fourth sentence of the first paragraph. That direction does not specify in which section the fourth sentence of the first paragraph of this redundancy exists.
  4. ^ This claim was shortened for brevity.
@Spintendo: Hi Spintendo. Thanks very much for reviewing my claims to be modified and adding the ones that were accepted! I really appreciate that. I think I may have misunderstood an element of your initial explanation and wanted to double check -- when saying that claims to be added should be separate from claims to be modified did you mean that they should be brought up in completely separate edit request posts? If so, should I repost my proposed claims to be added in their own separate post? Also, for the edit that was 'unable to be implemented' due to my not specifying where the redundancy is, could I post another edit request solely about that in response to your post here? Or would I need to start a new post made specifically for that individual edit request? Thanks again for all of your help, and for reviewing and adding these edits! Adding to the History Section: Kelly Services Edit Request

edit

Hi. On behalf of my employer, Kelly Services, I'm asking for help with the editing of some claims that I'm proposing be added to the Kelly Services wikipedia page (specifically, the History section). This is for the sake of providing the page with more relevant information for various periods of Kelly Services development as a company (e.g., specifying when and how certain services began to be offered between the 1960s and the 1990s). Below is a rendering, markup, and four edit requests for easier viewing!

Extended content
History edit request 1

1. Please add the following claim as the second/third sentence of the third paragraph of the History section:

"With the introduction of an outsourcing and consulting division, by the end of the 1990s, Kelly had become the largest scientific staffing company, and the only company to globally employ staff in scientific sectors. This was the result of Kelly creating ‘Kelly Scientific Resources’ in 1995, which specialized in temporary staff for scientific endeavors.”

2. Using as the reference:

"History of Kelly Services, Inc. – FundingUniverse". www.fundinguniverse.com.[1]

3. Reason for change being made:

”To describe the development of Kelly Services in the 1990s, in particular to explain new services that began to be offered by Kelly (Scientific Resources), and the associated statistical information (e.g., largest scientific staffing company).”
History edit request 2

1. Please add the following claim as the first sentence of the fourth/last paragraph of the History section:

"Kelly currently offers services including outsourcing and consulting, and staffing solutions from over 70 years of experience with temporary staffing.”

2. Using as the reference:

"Background". www.kellyservices.com.[2]

3. Reason for change being made:

”To explain that Kelly Services employs its services on the basis of 70 years of experience.”
History edit request 3

"Kelly Services: worldwide revenue 2018". Statista.[3]"History of Kelly Services, Inc. – FundingUniverse". www.fundinguniverse.com.[4]"2018 list of largest US staffing firms: 143 with revenue of over $100 million". www2.staffingindustry.com.[5]

3. Reason for change being made:

”To explain that Kelly Services is listed, as of 2018, as one of the top five largest staffing agencies in the world.”
History edit request 4

1. Please add the following claim as the first sentence of the third paragraph of the History section:

"By 1978, Kelly moved to its present-day headquarters’ location in Troy, Michigan. The service offerings of Kelly continued to expand to include healthcare, under its Kelly Health Care division, in 1976.”

2. Using as the reference:

"History of Kelly Services, Inc. – FundingUniverse". www.fundinguniverse.com.[6]

History

edit

Founded in 1946 by William Russell Kelly, the company was originally named Russell Kelly Office Service.[7][8] Services were provided in-house at the Kelly office. However, as customer offices grew and needed more resources, they began to ask for the Kelly employees to perform the work at their own offices. Temporary workers from Russell Kelly Office Service soon became known as ‘Kelly Girls’.[9] Adelaide Hess Moran, the first Kelly temporary employee to work at a customer’s office was promptly dubbed the first ‘Kelly Girl’.

The temporary workers, usually female, became known as "Kelly girls",[9] and the company name was changed to Kelly Girl Service, Inc. in 1957.[7] Eventually "Kelly girl" became a widely used term for a temporary worker, regardless of company affiliation or gender. By 1966, the company had expanded to include industrial and technical services divisions and was renamed Kelly Services, Inc.[10]

By 1978, Kelly moved to its present-day headquarters’ location in Troy, Michigan. The service offerings of Kelly continued to expand to include healthcare, under its Kelly Health Care division, in 1976.[11] With the introduction of an outsourcing and consulting division, by the end of the 1990s, Kelly had become the largest scientific staffing company, and the only company to globally employ staff in scientific sectors. This was the result of Kelly creating ‘Kelly Scientific Resources’ in 1995, which specialized in temporary staff for scientific endeavors.[12] In 2015, the company reported 8,100 employees, $5.5 billion in revenue,[13][14] making it one of the world's largest staffing firms.[15] In 2018, the company reported $5.5 billion in revenue.[16]

Kelly currently offers services including outsourcing and consulting, and staffing solutions from over 70 years of experience with temporary staffing.[17] With employees being hired globally in engineering, scientific, and office-based industries, Kelly remains one of the world’s largest staffing firms.[18][19][20] As of 2019, the CEO is Peter Quigley.[21]
