Information from unconfirmed spoilers/scripts

It is inaccurate to report information from rumor sites/script as fact until information has aired. Please do NOT add information about future happenings unless you can provide citation information from a reputable printed source or a reference to an aired show. I have reverted the information on Kendall's pregnancy to reflect this. - PoetsTruth 14:28, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Online spoilers sites.

Most of these sites fall within the purvue of unverifiable sources as defined by Wikipedia on the following page: Wikipedia:Reliable_sources. Thus far, there is only ONE site and/or source for information on the birth of Kendall's child. Until this information is corroborated by other print magazines or the official ABC website itself, I am reverting the information. --PoetsTruth 20:16, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Last Names and Marriages

I made a couple of minor edits. First, I don't think all of Kendall's last names need to be listed, so I changed it to just Kendall Hart Slater, her current name. Second, I removed Michael Cambias from Kendall's list of marriages. Kendall was not married to Michael. Her ex-lover Boyd posed as Michael and they faked the marriage. - Leese 07:39, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

This article is not ready for GA status yet and should not be nominated for such until it is

I needed to state this. Yes, this article is better than a lot of fictional character articles on Wikipedia, but that does not make it ready for Good Article (GA) status. It needs a significant amount of more work. Flyer22 (talk) 01:31, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Needs to be Updated

The storylines for this character have not been updated since 2007. A lot has happened involving this character since then. I need anyone who is willing to help to help me update it. Thank you! Amandaxpandax14 (talk) 21:39, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Kendall Hart SlaterKendall Hart – Should her name be either Kendall Hart or Kendall Hart Slater? Obviously, it can't be Kendall Kane.relisted --Mike Cline (talk) 18:55, 8 January 2012 (UTC) --George Ho (talk) 11:47, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

TEAM SLATER! Since she's married, I'd keep the Slater, possibly hyphenate it. But I'm old fashioned so I would like my gal to take the married name. "Slater" name should stay attached, unless something online offsite pops up otherwise. — WylieCoyote (talk) 12:48, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
Kendall Hart Slater, Kendall Hart, Kendall Slater, Kendall Kane Hart Slater, Kendall Kane Hart, Kendall Kane, Kendall Kane Slater should all redirect here at any rate. 76.65.128.132 (talk) 12:59, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
We are supposed to always go by WP:Common name when it comes to fictional characters. However, both "Kendall Hart" and "Kendall Hart Slater" are her common names. She has been referred to as "Kendall Hart Slater" so many times on the series since 2005...that it is almost as common as "Kendall Hart" now. But "Kendall Hart" is assuredly her most common name and is the name usually found in scholarly sources about her. Flyer22 (talk) 02:56, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
I'd go with Kendall Hart. That's the name she's been known by the longest and IRS the one most sources use. AniMate 20:53, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Date of First Appearance & Initial Age of Character

I completed several minor edits, including the date of the character's first appearance (from February 24, 1993 to March 11, 1993). This date is supported by several unofficial episode lists as Gellar's first broadcasted episode in the United States, but not substantiated by any official sources. It was also the date referenced by the character, herself, as when she moved to Pine Valley at the beginning of an All My Children episode dated February 16, 1994 (Seth Tanner: "And how long have you lived in Pine Valley, Ms. Hart?" Kendall Hart: "Since March 11, 1993."). I don't have episode numbers but if anybody has access to this information, I wonder if that could be used as a credible reference.

In addition, I changed any references of Kendall's debuting age from 22/23 years old to 16 years old. As several sources have cited, Kendall Hart was originally intended to be a 16-year old girl upon her first appearance. The first mention of her SORAS was made in an All My Children episode dated June 18, 1993 - some months after her introduction. I added an additional source (a print Gellar interview circa 1993) to substantiate the character's initial age, but it is not officially available online. I also added some additional details to her 1993-1995 storyline. --Courtlea (talk) 07:34, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello, Courtlea. Do not add unsourced information against sourced material, as you did here and here; it makes it look as though the unsourced material is sourced. While plot sections can generally be unsourced because the plot (that can be viewed by watching the series or film) serves as the source, it's best not to add unsourced material to the plot sections that are thoroughly sourced. And information about cast dates, first appearances (especially for the actor instead of the character) should be sourced (WP:Verifiability/WP:Reliable sources). While a character's first appearance is a part of the plot, and therefore maybe doesn't need to be sourced because the plot serves as the source, it is more difficult to locate an episode of an American soap opera character's first appearance because there are usually so many episodes. Also keep in mind that, per WP:PLOT, plot summaries should be kept as brief as they can be; this is a challenge with regard to soap opera storylines, but it can be done in a way that the plot detail is reasonable. A Wikipedia article heading, per WP:MOSHEAD, should be in sentence case and not title case...unless it is an official title. And do not mark edits as WP:Minor unless they are minor. Flyer22 (talk) 10:20, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi! While I greatly appreciate your concerns, I'd like to please revert the reversions you made to the plot as they were accurate and to the rapid aging in this article (as the edits you reverted to the rapid aging were sourced - Learning Life's Lessons by Michael Rush, Daytime TV, 1993). While I do agree with your concerns over plot length, (for my own information) is there a rule limiting plot summaries? Please, if I am missing something, correct me! My issue is that some of information in presented in the current article now is incorrect and doesn't fully explain the plot in a fluid manner. I understand the reversions of the edits I made to the earlier article, you are right - they were topping existing sources with unscourced information. I thank you for your quick guidance. Thank-you, also, for the explanation of WP:MOSHEAD. I will certainly pay heed to that in the future Courtlea (talk) 11:03, 30 August 2013 (UTC)Courtlea
Additionally, Sarah Michelle Gellar was 15 years old by the time of her March 11, 1993 debut, having been born April 14, 1977[1] Courtlea (talk) 11:08, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
Can you please explain how the latest revisions of the WP:PLOT are violation by me and Mariecarie89 when the entire plot is unsourced in every revision? What do I need to do to source these changes to the plot? Thank-you again for your help! Courtlea (talk) 11:29, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
I'd already reverted myself on this; see here. Sources state differently on Gellar's age, so I presented both. You should not add a different source to correct another source, unless it's clear that the other is incorrect or otherwise inaccurate. And if the other is inaccurate, then you should remove it from the line it's sourced to. Gellar's birth date also helps to know which of the two sources is more accurate. As for the IMDb source you cite above, see Wikipedia:External links/Perennial websites#IMDb for why IMDb generally is not considered a WP:Reliable source. I suppose it's fine if you add back this plot detail. But this plot detail (which, despite the edit summary, is a combination of your and Mariecarrie89's edits) is unacceptable, per WP:PLOT. WP:PLOT is a rule; in fact, it is policy (not just a guideline), and points to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction)#Plot summaries. That is why I reverted your revert of me here, and left a WP:Dummy edit note about it. If you want an updated plot section, that is fine. Going overboard on plot detail is not. As for the plot being unsourced, I already told you "plot sections can generally be unsourced because the plot (that can be viewed by watching the series or film) serves as the source." This is why you generally do not see sources in the plot sections of film articles, for example The Dark Knight (film), or primetime television articles. They are usually readily verifiable. However, because there are so many soap opera episodes (at least generally for American soap operas), storylines for soap opera plot summaries are usually not easily verifiable; therefore, you will see such plot sections sourced more often than the plot section of play, television or film articles.
As for guiding you, I will add a Welcome template to your talk page, and I point you to WP:SOAPS (ask about matters at that talk page). I will start a section there about these issues. I am busy with other matters on and off Wikipedia and I do not have the time or interest in guiding anyone on Wikipedia these days. Flyer22 (talk) 11:53, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
  1. ^ "Sarah Michelle Gellar". IMDB.
I don't have time for this. Or rather, I don't want to make time for it. By all means, go ahead and continue to mess up the article. I'm done with this matter for now (maybe for a long time). Hopefully, someone at WP:SOAPS can help. Flyer22 (talk) 12:03, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
Please, I'd love to talk with you and help resolve this. We have a matter of disagreement over what constitutes a summary. I don't feel that I am messing up the article - I am providing information that is as accurate as possible and have accepted your other revisions, understanding their basis. I'd be happy to provide my email address or talk about this with you in any method you wish! Courtlea (talk) 12:08, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank-you for this explanations (especially in regard to verification of plot details with American soap operas!) Also, thank-you for being willing to create a Welcome template for me, and pointing me to [[WP::SOAPS]]. I understand that WP:PLOT is policy, not just a guideline, and feel I was in the confines of Wikipedia's manual of style in regards to plot details. Unfortunately, we obviously don't agree on this. Even though I disagree with you, if you ever found the time or interest (I understand you have stated you don't have this now), I would love to start a discourse with you, develop a summary that would satisfy us both, or talk with anybody else over this matter. Again, thank-you for what guidance you've already provided me. I appreciate you explaining the different sources in regards to Gellar's age. The source I cited in Kendall's rapid aging supported the fact that she was brought on as a teenager, something I had not seen stated in any existing sources on the page.
