editMy case for releasing this entry from the Speedy Deletion category: Despite my relation with the subject, Ken Weaver was a pioneering writer whose achievements should be acknowledged in this medium. I'd like to cite an article from The Lawrence Journal World to sum up his contribution to the Scientific Journalism category. A search (which expires, so you'll have to do your own for "weaver" and "since 1950") on National Geographic's archives returns all 37 articles, as well as one book he wrote for the publication.
The jpg image submitted with this article, from the original National Geographic cover, was scanned by me. I read the fair use compliance instructions for copyrighted content within Wikipedia, and I'm fairly sure it fits within this category. It directly relates to the subject of the article and is not intended to be used for any gain, financial or otherwise. My intent was to simply illustrate a part of my entry. Please inform me if this is not within the fair use guidelines - I would enjoy constructive feedback.
As a first-time submitter, I made *multiple* (nay, a slew...cubed!) of edits in one sitting tonight. I regret this breach of Wiki etiquette, and I hope that it does not imperil the recognition Ken Weaver so deserves within this community. Please let me know how I can remedy my errant behavior, as well as (if necessary) how I can ameliorate any other aspect of my entry in order for it not to be deleted.
Thanks so much for your consideration.Sweetweaver 05:41, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
There's a lot more edits to go if you want to save this--it must be written in an encyclopedic tone with 3rd party outside references, not a personal one. You are the one who has to add the articles you mention, & organize the article. The jpg may not bet fair use. check at WP:COPYRIGHT
As is my right, not being the author, I have removed the speedy, but the article will surely be deleted in a day or two unless you make it look like a WP article. Best wishes for it. Ive made an edit or two to start you off. DGG 08:45, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
DGG - thanks so much for the feedback. I will follow your guidelines right away. Additionally, I've written to National Geographic, not only for their permission to use my scanned image, but for verification and possible addition to this article. I appreciate your response.
One more question, if I may be so bold: Since the National Geographic archives during Weaver's career are not available online, what would you suggest to find articles for citation and/or verification, aside from the one I've provided? Thanks again.
One more Q4U, DGG: would it be acceptable to add National Geographic Magazine to the Science Magazine category?

I've made extensive edits per your recommendations. Please let me know if this adheres to your expectations. Thank you again. Sweetweaver 12:25, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
