I deleted a reference to "spring and early summer" because there is no spring in Malaysia and the nearest equivalent to summer is the dry season, which is not the same thing.

I will put up one or more links, but if someone has a good digital picture of a great view like one from the Sultan Mahmud Dam, please post it. Unfortunately, all I had with me when I visited was a throw-away camera.

The article does not make mention of the severe ecological impact of the creation of the lake in the first place, nor of the displacement of the 'Orang Asli' ('original people') who inhabited the valleys which now make up the lake.

The article mentiones but does not cite a 'recent study revealed that there are some 300 species of freshwater fish dwelling in the lake'. Many species of fish in the lake are supplied by man, and there are a number of breeding stations located in the 'off limits' sections of the lake.

There is also an ambitous plan in the pipeline to increase tourist numbers several fold in the next few years. This includes a new road from Ipoh to cut down on travel time from the west coast, orchid gardens, zoos, orang utan and wildlife enclosures, more camping grounds and many other projects which are bound to have a significant impact on the environment. AFAIK there are no impact studies underway, nor much in the way of engagement of local or other universities to assess the current state of the environment in the lake.

If anyone can expand on the above with references we would get a more balanced view on this beautiful lake and how is being managed....
