'Rope may be cleaned by chaining it'. Chaining?

Yes, this should have a link or more explanation... Chaining in this context is referring to a Chain sinnet, which is often to shorten/stow a length of rope in a way that helps reduce tangling and is quite fast/easy to undo. There are a few naming issues with the current article on the chain sinnet which I will be addressing in a moment, but after that I'll add a proper link. --Dfred (talk) 20:34, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

PMI

I removed the link to Pigeon Mountain Industries because it was a very small stub and was listed before historical rope makers like Mammut. I think it was a plant by the company as an advertising ploy. Not being from America I have never heard of them in any way, so I think I reflect the majority of the community who know Beal and Mammut etc., as recognised names worldwide. If you can show that Pigeon Mountain Industries ropes are recognised by climbers the world over, please put them back with appropriate citations! PMI was started by cavers according to On Rope and is still popular with cavers for their durable, static ropes. I have restored the mention with a reference. WTucker (talk) 13:44, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

If you wish to make the claim that Edelrid is the inventor of the Kernmantle Rope cited only to an alpine club newsletter, please do not remove well cited information in the same edit as was done here. WTucker (talk) 13:15, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
