It says 6500 in one reference and 650 in another.

I checked, and 6500 appears to be the correct figure. This is from the study by Humphrey (1988), who says that earlier estimates by Barbour and Humphrey (1982) were too low. That paper has an estimated total population of 654 (p. 117), and that's presumably where the Miami Herald got its data from. Ucucha 23:32, 22 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
