Hey HistoryofIran, just wanted to clarify, are the sources you’re referring the Encyclopaedia Iranica? My concern is that the spellings used there tend to vary from the majority of other sources i.e Hormizd as Hormozd[1], Ismail as Esmāʿil[2]. I just thought it would make more sense to use the spelling that is the most commonly used. Alivardi (talk) 15:48, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I wasn't referring to Iranica. In many prominent Safavid-related sources (and thus in Wikipedia) the names are transliterated in Modern Persian, so -a -> -eh, Muhammad -> Mohammad etc. --HistoryofIran (talk) 17:07, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Looking at different Iranian-related articles, I can see that, like you said, loads of them use your style of spelling and that it wouldn't be feasible to move them all. But tbh, it bugs me that someone looking up these people using such spellings would have a hard time finding any results. If you don't have any issues with it, I'm gonna add something like "also spelt Khwaja Muhammad Sharif" to the article lede to avoid this problem. I might also put this suggestion on a noticeboard to see if it might be feasible to do this with all Iran-related articles facing such issues. Alivardi (talk) 15:11, 3 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
