Talk:King's Quest fan games
References in secondary sources
editThere are about ten references in the article currently, but most appear to be primary sources (published by the game developer) or unreliable (Wikis and other user-editable sites). Have these fan games gotten coverage in any reliable secondary sources yet? Any articles in PC magazines, gamer magazines, Wired, or the like?
It's a two-pronged concern: not only is verifiability an issue if the article is relying on primary sources, but it calls into question whether the games are notable—and if the article's subject is neither notable nor verifiable, the article should be deleted. —C.Fred (talk) 17:41, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- I know several have been mentioned in Kotaku, Wired, places like that. Some even appearing on CNN news articles. I can help add the links! See the 'external links' section.Questfan (talk) 17:55, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- Note btw, most of this article was moved out of the primary King's Quest article. Since that article was getting quite large! Also note AGD Interactive and Infamous Adventures articles. Questfan (talk) 18:10, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- This was a link to youtube recording of an episode of Electric Playground, "www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMQbLQSG88o", showing scenes from AGD Interactive, Infamous Adventures, and Phoenix Online Studios on G4TV. But apparently the 'spam bots' see it as spam, and do not like it.Questfan (talk) 22:20, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- Let's take a step back here and look at this. Does it really matter how encyclopedia and verified Wikipedia's knowledge of old fan games is? While I agree this article is messy and needs some rewriting/reformatting, I don't really see how deleting sections or the article itself or the entire article would really solve anything, except to remove more information for the sake of being "more encyclopedia". I understand the concept of wanting to a "real" encyclopedia, but at the end of the day, that dream is largely impossible, so Wikipedia needs to focus on being a repository of knowledge rather than an encyclopedia. tl;dr - Sometimes rule-based concessions should be made for Wikimedia projects, because removing knowledge entirely in an impossible pursuit to be a respected academic encyclopedia is kinda silly. 70.29.20.237 (talk) 03:47, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Attempted deletion and notability
editTechnically the 'fan games' several in fact are notable for actually receiving 'fan licenses' by the company (who owned the games) to make and release the games. Each of those games even have their own wiki articles. Unless we propose to remove those articles and their company pages? Infamous Adventures, AGD Interactive, The Silver Lining (video game), etc. These three companies went onto form their own public companies which have produced commercial games as well.
Also none of this should be included on the main King's Quest wiki page, as that article is already too long (and probably should be edited down further).
I do agree that this article needs to be cleaned up to better standards. I mostly just moved the stuff from one page over to this one, and expanded upon it, mirroring the sections of the official games page. However, the other page also needs to be cleaned up as well.Questfan (talk) 14:05, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
