Considering the significant controversy and media coverage surrounding the Pittsburg Maulers cutting Running Back De'Veon Smith, Coach Wilson's involvement should be noted.

On April 17th, 2022, one day before the Pittsburg Maulers inaugural game, footage began circulating of the dismissal of Maulers' Running Back De'Veon Smith[1]. Wilson was observed informing Smith of his release, due to an incident between Smith and a hotel staff member. Smith had apparently violated team rules encompassing respect when he asked for pizza instead of chicken salad, the staff member declined and asked if "[that] would be a problem" and Smith answered "Yes".
