Requesting quote: really need tighter reference

edit

I added {{Request quote}} to the article after the reference to http://www.thewineadvocate.com. That citation is too broad and doesn't lead me to the citation. It should be tightened up or removed. Toddstreat1 05:54, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

100 Parker-poins, well, well... have I seen this kind of partial/misleading quotation of Parker before or not...? Wine Advocate # 132 Dec 2000: 1999 Kistler Pinot Noir Occidental Vineyard Cuvee Elizabeth (98-100). For those who are not used to deciphering Parker notes, (...) means a provisional note for a wine tasted from cask (or otherwise in an unfinished state). In these cases a wine is always given a point range. Quoting this as as a straight 100 is quite simply not correct! It seems that WA has never returned to this wine and tasted it after bottling, i.e., it has no final note. Also: less marketingspeak in this article, please. Tomas e 21:43, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, it looks like I'm unable to tell the difference between Pinot Noir and Chardonnay... or perhaps I need to clean my glasses (spectacles, not wine glasses :-) )... The claim was about a 1999 Chardonnay, not Pinot Noir. I simply checked erobertparkeronline.com for a 1999 Kistler and took the highest-scoring I found, and that was the pinot mentioned above. The 1999 Kistler Chardonnay Cuvee Cathleen got a provisional note of (96-100) in Wine Advocate # 132 Dec 2000, and a final note of 97 in Wine Advocate # 142 Aug 2002. It's never correct to quote the provisional note after the final note has been given, and (96-100) is not 100, and neither is 97! I'm going to remove it. If anyone is intereted, the highest WA-rated Kistler wine is 2000 Kistler Pinot Noir Occidental Vineyard Cuvee Elizabeth which got 99 in Wine Advocate # 142 Aug 2002. No Kistler wine has ever been rated 100, according to erobertparker.com. Tomas e 22:08, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Restoring Taber citation

edit

I'm restoring the reference to the Judgement of Paris that User:Agne27 deleted and including a URL for further verification. Toddstreat1 12:18, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Discussion of notability

edit

FWIW, there's a discussion of Kistler's notability going on over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Wine. Toddstreat1 12:23, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Leading Chardonnay producer

edit

Taken from a conversation on my talk page I have doubts as to the strength of that reference to Kistler being a "leading Chardonnay" producer. The reference in Judgement of Paris is part of an after index "How to do your own JOP like tasting" guide and Kistler is mentioned almost in passing with no collaborating statements to back up the claim that they are a "leading producer of chardonnay" (Sales, production volume, range of distribution, history? etc). It seems like an unsubstantiated personal opinion and just a token mention at that. AgneCheese/Wine 22:18, 3 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
