A glacial ice dam broke because of a receding glacier. This reversed the dam formation during the "last mini ice age" a long time ago. The water going into the lake through Slim's River (and onto the Bering Straight through the Yukon) is now headed to the Pacific directly west. This happened over a few days a couple years ago. - Did I imagine it, or did I see an information board on the lake shore claiming that until a relatively short time ago – centuries rather than millennia – the lake used to drain southwards into the Gulf of Alaska before geology conspired to block the outlet?
