Etymology of Haj
editHello, with this edit, User:Tabnak added a bunch of text about one of the words in the name of the mountain. As this is an article about the mountain, I don't think this material is relevant. For instance, the first two mountains I thought of handle this differently: Mount Fuji#Etymology and Mount Everest#Naming talk about how the mountain came to have that name, but do not go into the history of the words Fuji, Everest or mountain. If Wikipedia had an article Haj (word), which I don't think it should, perhaps that material should go there. It could also possibly in some form be added to the Wiktionary definition haj. Thank you, SchreiberBike talk 19:28, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hello, many thanks for your message and ideas. There are already in Wikipedia these words, for example, Hajji, Hajji Firuz and Alhagi maybe I should write a article Haji Koshtah or Haji Kushtah? What do you mean? Or in the context of Hajji (disambiguation) is better. Word explanations we have, thanks to the English orientalist and Iran scientist? Haji as thorns plant, as slaked lime or iron ore. They are of such mountains really relevant. What idea do you have? Thank you and a nice weekend Tabnak (talk) 20:31, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for your quick reply. Generally articles in Wikipedia are about concepts rather than words. Word origins are generally covered in dictionaries like Wiktionary. So Hajj for example is about the event, and includes only one sentence about the meaning of the word, and has nothing about words that are similar but may have different origins. Also, there would have to be reliable sources which connect a mountain's name to a word. It would be original research if you are making the connection instead of a source. I can tell how enthusiastic you are about this topic, but I'm not sure if it fits in Wikipedia. SchreiberBike talk 21:47, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
