Notability
editIt is intended that this article be developed - it is essentially a stub only it is at least a little more substantial in terms of links to further sources. I feel it is particularly important to have some biographical entries for women magicians as they are currently an overlooked category. There are a significant number of entries on Wikipedia for male magicians, many are no more substantial than this entry for Kristen Johnson. She is one of perhaps two or three women currently working professionally in the escapology sub-field. She is an established professional performer who has been working for some years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Circusandmagicfan (talk • contribs) 18:06, February 15, 2007
- How does this person meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines? Are there are verifiable references? IrishGuy talk 18:28, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with IrishGuy that there are definite notability concerns here. However, I poked around some of the magician trade magazines, and it seems that Ms. Johnson does have some degree of notability within the magician industry. Based on my quick glance, I'm not sure that there's enough to warrant keeping the article, but there's just enough to make me want to keep an open mind that I may have missed something. So, I've gone ahead and removed the "speedy delete" tag for now, but it's just a temporary reprieve. Circusandmagicfan, please provide some sources which verify that Johnson is "famous", such as an interview in a major newspaper or magazine, or proof of a major award, otherwise this article will be deleted in short order (probably a few days). Irishguy, does this work for you? I'm not saying that the article should definitely be kept, but I'd like to give it at least 48-72 hours to improve, before we send it off to AfD. --Elonka 19:18, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds fine. The article didn't illustrate any real notability when I tagged it. As long as notability can be shown, the article should stay. IrishGuy talk 19:26, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- Concerning Kristen Johnson; October 29, 2006 Kristen was given one of the top awards in her field during the 4th Annual International Escape Convention where she performed her futuristic Full View Water Torture Cell Escape. She was given The Masters Award, presented by Thomas Blacke of Escape Masters magazine. Kristen is also one of only two artists to perform at all four Escape Artist Conventions.
- Her Full View Water Torture Cell totally mesmerizes the audience they have never witnessed this daring event in full view. Nothing is more heart pounding than to watch Kristen hold her breath while she picks the locks that entomb here in a watery grave. She averages 2 minutes and 45 seconds in the underwater escape on one breath, however she has encountered several events where it has taken up to 3 minutes and 15 seconds to free herself, once again on one breath. She ends each and every show with this escape and has performed it as much as 30 times in ten days. Kristen offers a $10,000.00 challenge to anyone who can prove that she takes a second breath, uses an underwater breathing apparatus or a key once she has dropped below the water.
- Media wise, She has been featured on The Travel Channel's Inside the Houdini Museum. This show documented Houdini and modern day escape artists. Kristen was the only female selected for the show as she performed her Spike Escape and together with her husband, performed their version of Origami. She has been mentioned on the front page of The L.A. Times in a story about the reemergence of escape artists, most notably Mark Cannon. In most cities where Living Illusions is peforming, the local media covers Kristen and her famous escape.--E2XGUY 05:10, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
POV check
editI noticed this article has been flagged for POV check. Unfortunately whoever flagged it has not posted anything to explain their action. I guess that (like many Wiki articles) this could do with a little tidying and pruning to improve it (eg. pruning of external links). I believe the subject's husband has contributed a certain amount of material and I can see that would tend to a particular POV but I think it can probably be addressed by relatively minor editing. My difficulty in judging what needs to be done is that I originally created the article and my reading of it is influenced by my interest in the topic of magic and escapology. I'd prefer to see the comments of an experienced editor who hasn't worked on the piece before I attempt to fix it.Circusandmagicfan (talk) 11:31, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Circusandmagicfan
- I came to this page for background information after reading a news story. As someone who is largely disinterested, I found the article to be informative and useful. I would have been dissapointed had Wikipedia NOT had an article on her. Given the fact that she is a minor entertainer (rather than, say, a political figure) there does not seem to be much point in worrying much about the article's "neutrality" or POV. Alan.A.Mick (talk) 13:51, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- Neutrality is something to be aimed for in all wikipedia articles. The point is to maintain the overall quality of Wiki as an encyclopedia. Without the neutrality policy Wiki would degenerate to (and become known as) merely a free hosting site for PR material and propaganda, which would diminish its value as a reference work.Circusandmagicfan (talk) 08:48, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Circusandmagicfan
- I've done a bit of work to try to make the style a little more neutral. I can do more if needed but it would be helpful to have some other editors give feedback first. Or if other editors feel the neutrality tag can be removed perhaps one of them would do the honours.Circusandmagicfan (talk) 15:15, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Circusandmagicfan
- The article looks appropriately neutral to me. Anybody else care to comment? --A More Perfect Onion (talk) 15:18, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

- As there have been no further comments on POV it seems the article can be taken as having been brought within the neurality guidelines. I'll therefore remove the tag.Circusandmagicfan (talk) 15:17, 12 August 2010 (UTC)Circusandmagicfan
