Kshetrajna is not the soul! It is a non active watcher and witness (see Adhyatmopanishad 2) of the action of men (and as such the container of the Karma of the individual), which is also called Atma in the indian texts which should be translated as life odem. What is called "soul" (the correct translation would be "spirit") ist the Jiva.
