First-hand info

I think that this whole Kuala lumpur section just reads like it has been done by somebody of the city's public relation department. Whenever critical first-hand information is included, it is just deleted within hours. I think Wikipedia should be more than just city hall PR. I assume the city hall of Kuala Lumpur has assigned an official to keep an eye on the page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.93.152.18 (talk) 12:23, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

First hand info is not normally reliable, and most of the time biased. U need to back up such facts or opinions with reliable sources. For e.g. there was once survey saying KL taxis are one of the worst in the world. Get that source or link, and add it to the article. Another e.g X Magazine claims KL to be one of the dirtiest cities in Asia. U can add this to the article provided X magazine is a reliable source. See: WP:RS, WP:V, WP:OR, WP:NPOV, WP:WEASEL, WP:NOT, etc. Cheers. ќמшמφטтгמtorque 04:54, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Demographics

In the third paragraph of this section, it is stated that many people from China came to Kuala Lumpur in the late 18th century. I don't know much about KL, but since the city is mentioned as originating in the 1850s, shouldn't it be changed into "late 19th century" or "late 1800s"?

I'll leave specialists think over it and edit the section if needed. Patch051 (talk) 15:36, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

The "Cityscape Gallery" is way too big, and the whole section is rather dubious — there's already a section (and separate article) on architecture in Kuala Lumpur. Time to nuke the whole thing? Jpatokal (talk) 14:10, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Sure go ahead. I think the gallery should be removed if we want this article to maintain its GA status. ќמшמφטтгמtorque 08:22, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

The image File:Commonwealth Games Federation Logo.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Spelling; orthography

What would the Malay pronunciation (following Malay phonology) of the name of the city be, as spelled in modern Bahasa Malay(si)a orthography? Kuala Lumpu? – Kaihsu (talk) 00:20, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Flag

The flag of Kuala Lumpur was the flag of the territory until somewhere in 2006-2007 when it was changed to a new one. Someone please kindly update the flag. Thanks Kangxi Emperor 康熙帝 (talk) 17:35, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Language spoken by Malaysian Indians

Ref: [1]

I wonder who put it the statement that Malaysian Indians speak Pakistani languages of Urdu and Pashto. It's total rubbish put in by some Pro-Pakistani fanatics. Malaysian Indians are almost entirely of South Indian descent, mainly Tamil, but also a sizeble Malayalam and Telegu community. There are also a segment of Punjabis (mostly Sikhs) who speak Punjabi. I did a thorough Google search anyhow. Could that person who says Malaysian Indians speak Pakistani languages please cite a reliable source? And please, Malaysian Indians don't include those Pakistani temporary migrant workers. KLeaglz (talk) 14:23, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Name Heading

Hello everybody, I recently noticed that many Malaysian states and cities on Wikipedia have the heading of the city/state name (at the top, in the box on the right) written in Chinese, Tamil & Jawi script. I'm not sure if there's a rule to this but isn't the name of the place in Wikipedia, for the sake of uniformity, supposed to be only in English and where applicable, the name in the official or recognized language of the place? In this case, it should only be known as Kuala Lumpur since Malay and English designate the capital city with the same name, and only in the Latin script (since Malay written in the Latin script is recognized as the official language (& script) in the Constitution). Anyone could enlighten me on this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.85.159.145 (talk) 23:35, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Human development index

Hi. Where did the HDI number come from? As far as I know, the UN does not give out HDI for individual state within a country. __earth (Talk) 13:28, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Balance?

Reading this, you'd think there was no crime in Kuala Lumpur, no poverty, no social unrest or political disputes... nothing negative at all, really, except a very brief mention of controversy related to Anwar Ibrahim. It's not clear to me that this article has earned its GA with such a one-sided picture of the city. Nathan T 13:19, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Kapitan Yap Ah Loy

I feel kind of weird, funny and tingling all over my body to see VERY BIG PICTURE of Kapitan Yap Ah Loy right at the beginning of the article. Is that even NECESSARY??? The picture looks scary to me... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.171.164.226 (talk) 10:42, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Validating the claim that the above section was posted by myself

This isn't exactly necessary, but this is just me validating my claim that this section was, in fact, posted by myself.

I don't have to do this, but I will: I'm going to look at the history, find one of the revisions that had the photograph, and find out what template, if any, it was in and then find the username (or IP address) of those responsible.
