Note:

Kupffer cells are thought to express little MHC class II and no TLR-4 (Toll like receptor). This is because they are resident in the liver and their job is to remove the large numbers of dying cells from the blood. This means they are taking up a lot of self antigens. Hence, it is vital for them to not be easily activated (to express co-stimmulatory signals e.g. through TLR-4) because otherwise they could easily cause an autoimmune response.

TLR4 is expressed on Kupffer cells.

Kupffer cells <> sternzellen/stellate cells?

This reference [[1]] indicates that Kupffer cells (the monocyte-derived phagocytic cells found in hepatic sinusoids) are not the cells that Kupffer called sternzellen. We may need to rewrite the History section - I will do this when I get the chance, if no one else does it first. --Scray (talk) 04:10, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Possibly involved in tumour metastasis
