Kurzgesagt
editIt is my understanding that Kurzgesagt is a Munich-based multimedia design firm founded by Phillipp Dettmer and In a Nutshell is a series of videos. Although their channel, "Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell" is their primary presence on YouTube, Kurzgesagt is more than this and I think it would be appropriate to move this page to Kurzgesagt and rewrite the article to reflect not only their presence on YouTube (as well as maybe listing their videos), but also the kind of work they do (producing videos and illustrations for a variety of clients and developing various books and apps), and their history (school was boring, and information design can help make learning interesting, effektive, and fun).
L&Superfoo (talk) 03:42, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
I second the above. Other projects include work for Red Cross and Bitdefender, so they certainly have enough high profile clients to warrant a subsection. However, "In a Nutshell" is the English translation for Kurzgesagt, and is now part of their name to make them more accessible to internationals. On their website the page owner name, at the bottom of the page as, is displayed "© Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell 2017". --DawsonCXVII (talk) 08:47, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
Kurzgesagt German channel
editIn the introduction: “Kurzgesagt also maintains a German channel with similar content.”
A reference to this channel would be good. I wanted to add it myself but only found https://www.youtube.com/user/KurzgesagtDE/ with no videos and the description also did not help. Does anyone know more and could put the German channel as reference? --Bugybunny (talk) 16:47, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Bugybunny
- What do you mean? The channel has 119 videos and 1.9 millions subscribers in addition to having over 211 million channel views. 24.180.22.223 (talk) 18:38, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- Well yeah, that’s the case now. When I made my comment on 2017-12-11 there was no video uploaded yet (as written). The first video to the channel was only uploaded around 2 weeks later on 2017-12-27. Bugybunny (talk) 21:50, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
Deleted unsourced/ extraneous material
editIf someone has a source describing the origins of Kurzgesagt as a "passion project", and their surprise at achieving over 100 subscribers, feel free to revert my edits with the addition of those sources.
Also, I feel the mention of Patreon was unnecessary and 'ad-like'. Similar youtuber pages such as for CGP Grey don't mention their Patreons, nor their incomes in general.
Article Update
editThey deleted two of their most popular videos, one of which is mentioned in the first paragraph.

With the controversy between this YT channel and another prominent channel, Coffee Break there is a possibility of influx of vandalism which is talking place.
I will recommend an immediate semi-protection notice as an edit war has already started here.
This is my second appeal as the seriousness of this can be seen in the recent edit history of the page. My previous appeal for the semi-protection was deleted without giving any explanation. It was given an yes but deleted immediately after. I don't thibk it is permitted or ethical to delete a whole discussion. Atleast I have never seen this in any other talk pages. Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell → Kurzgesagt – Simply a more commonly recognisable name for the studio. It should be noted that on their website, the studio refers to themselves more as "kurzgesagt" more than "in a nutshell" [1], and on social media their name is simply "Kurzgesagt" on Facebook and Twitter [2][3]. In addition, there are over 12.9 million results on Google for "Kurzgesagt" [4], meaning that the name alone is prevalent without the "in a nutshell" subtitle. There is no need for the subtitle in order to create a more precise article title, as there is no other topic currently covered by Wikipedia that shares the Kurzgesagt name; the name itself is a redirect to this article. – PhilipTerryGraham (talk · articles · reviews) 21:41, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Epic Mountain
editShould Epic Mountain's work with Kurzgesagt be added anywhere in the article, since they have collaborated for a fairly long time together? TXephy (talk) 11:26, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
- @TXephy: If there is a source for this, why not? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:07, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
Screenshot
editI send an email to Kurzgesagt asking if they'd like to make a screenshot available under CC-BY-SA to help us illustrate Wikipedia article about them. Wonder if they'll reply... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:07, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- Update: No, they didn't. Disappointing. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:26, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
Edit reversion
editHello Nardog, the German channel starts with Dinge Erklärt and the Spanish one starts with En Pocas Palabras. So it is assumed that simply stating Kurzgesagt is a reference to the English Channel.SenatorLEVI (talk) 07:20, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Titles of works
editRe: this edit: kindly refer to MOS:TITLE; book titles are italicized, even in subheadings, e.g. this article, and even in article names, e.g. The Selfish Gene.
Also see MOS:BODY: "Sections should be consecutive, such that they do not skip levels from sections to sub-subsections." (Your edit skipped a level; doesn't matter if the font seems big, it's an accessibility issue.) — zmm ~talk~ 09:53, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
- Was it really necessary to start a talk page discussion regarding such a simple formatting edit? In the future, when it comes to extremely minor changes, kindly just explain yourself in edit summary. Damien Linnane (talk) 10:55, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
- Necessary? No. It's optional though (WP:REVERT). I thought it more polite since your edit summary included shouting, so I thought maybe, maybe there's more to it. But apparently not. Glad it's sorted. — zmm ~talk~ 11:02, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
Maybe add a link to their channel in the External Links?
editTheir YouTube channel is what Kurzgesagt is known for and what makes Kurzgesagt notable. I know that the External Links section doesn't normally include YouTube channels٫ which is why I'm creating a discussion about it rather than just putting it there. Allegations of distorting information regarding their "sponsors"
editSo there is this video:"How Kurzgesagt Cooks Propaganda For Billionaires" by "The hated one" (I can't post the link) which raises some good points and also lists all of its sources in the description. I am a wikivoyager not a wikipedian. And I need help both in examining the information and whether or not it should be in the article and if it should be there, I am not really familiar with the way style and sources and so on are done on wikipedia. So yeah I need help and I don't wanna sound like a conspiracy theorist. I sell eggs (talk) 15:48, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- YouTube is not considered a reliable source for Wikipedia, so I'm afraid you cannot use it. Club On a Sub 20 (talk) 17:03, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
Yes, but the video Is essentially a collection of sources. Why shouldn't a video that provides all the required sources not be allowed to start a discussion? It's still happening. I don't think the video should be the source, I just said that it is all tied together and explained in the video. I sell eggs (talk) 21:53, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- If the individual sources used by the video pass WP:RS, cite them directly. You cannot cite an unreliable source, even if the source provides references. Damien Linnane (talk) 22:29, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @I sell eggs, YouTube is a self-publishing platform, meaning that reliability varies on who is posting the information. As far as I can tell, 'The Hated One' does not have any fact-checking or editorial board nor was labelled as 'reliable' by other reliable sources. So, unless there are evidence otherwise, 'The Hated One' is not a reliable source, especially for a claim this contentious. Carpimaps (talk) 09:50, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
Kurzgesagt Germany longer under Funk
edit"Dinge Erklärt - Kurzgesagt", Kurzgesagt's official german branch has recently announced their departure from Funk of ARD and ZDF in a video on their channel. I have updated the article accordingly. 178.38.51.104 (talk) 16:47, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

So what is the founding date?
editI noticed that a banner is on top of this article: "This article may require copy editing for inconsistent date(s) of foundation. You can assist by editing it." So what should be the founding date used in this article? Carpimaps (talk) 09:55, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
Sources of funding lacks full context
editThe final paragraph of Sources of funding currently lacks sufficient context of the claims put forward by The Hated One or Think That Through, as clarified by later videos which claimed that the response did not respond to all arguments put forward. This ought to be addressed, but I am aware from above conversations from early this year that YouTube is not to be used as a source here (and am aware from elsewhere that primary sources are generally avoided). I'm putting this here to open for discussion the validity of highlighting the original problems put forward (not necessarily the problems themselves) via citing the videos which put forward these complaints. Otherwise, the final paragraph is very incomplete and leans heavily towards Kurzgesagt's side, if you take the view that they failed to respond to many of the complaints. EPEAviator (talk) 12:50, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- No. Contrary to your claims, the final paragraph is not incomplete for omitting this information. The final paragraph is not required to provide "sufficient context" to sources of criticism on the internet that completely fail WP:RS, like the YouTube channels you linked above, nor are Kurzgesagt (or anyone for that matter) required to respond to all complaints from unreliable sources. Whether or not Kurzgesagt "failed to respond to many of the complaints" is irrelevant. If you think it is a problem they didn't respond, that is only your original research; if the YouTube channels you've linked think that, that is also not notable to mention in the article as they do not meet Wikipedia's reliability threshold.
- You mentioned you're aware "YouTube is not to be used as a source here", yet confusingly you also say we should be "citing the videos which put forward these complaints". Do you have a non-YouTube source that actually meets WP:RS that explicitly criticised Kurzgesagt for not responding to all the complaints? If not, you're wasting your time. If you're only referring to the YouTube channels you linked, then no, we will not be citing those videos for reasons that have been made clear, nor will we cite other YouTube videos from similar sources.
