Talk:Kutsher's Camp Anawana

Comment on notability: A quick wikipedia search for "summer camp" and "New york" turns up dozens of camps and even a category, Category:Jewish summer camps, so apparently precedent exists to list summer camps on Wikipedia.

This article is not written in very encyclopedic tone. I try to work with newcomers and I'll leave a note on the writer's talk page.

Please do not delete.

Why this is important

The Kutsher family still owns and uses this land as part of their hotel/country club complex. It is one of the last (the last?) major Borscht Belt hotels left in the Catskills. The fact that the Kutsher family owned this camp, by default (IMHO) makes the camp important, especially since it's sister camp, the Kutsher's Sports Academy is still open.

The Camp has an active alumni group. It regularly attended the Maurice Stokes Game, a fundraiser held annually at the hotel or the Sports Academy.

And if anything else, it should show the post Baby Boomer crowd that there was a Camp Anawana that was just not a tv show on Nickelodeon.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Postcard Cathy (talk • contribs) 13:28, 9 July 2006.

PS If Jewish summer camps is a topic that warrants a topic of it's own, then an individual camp should as well. As far as how it is written, this is the first topic I have written and therefore have no experience. Update July 11: The page has been updated several times since it's original posting and still has not been given importance? The entry is more detailed than many camp listings on Wiki! It has several famous (and award winning) alumni. There is a boy scout camp of the same name still operating. There was a Nickelodeon show commonly referred to as Camp Anawana - and that show has more fan sites than the real Camp Anawana does! There is even a horror movie with a Camp Anawana as the site. And the camp is an important part of the history of the Catskill Region!

Categories

There's something wrong with the categories at the bottom of the article -- they're showing up as red links. Either they've had their names change or they never existed. Non-existent categories should not be used (it causes some sort of problem but I don't remember the details). Wikipedia:Categorization will have the details but I've got to run.--A. The summer camp category is the one you gave me earlier so I don't know what is up with that! Can you help me with the wikify comment? I glanced over the link and the quick guide to editing and I am not sure what changes I need to make to wikify the article! Cathy

PS OOPS You said Jewish summer camp well sorry I would like to start a new category called summer camp why should summer camps be divided on the basis of religion?

How do I wikify?

Give me some more help on this subject. What is it specifically that is wrong? Give me some concrete advice on how to fix it. Refering me to a one size fits all guide isn't helping me.
